2nd Grade in Texas. We’re on camera from 8 AM - 1PM. I give 10 minute breaks every hour and a 30 minute break at 10. When kids are working on assignments they can turn their camera off but they do not log off. If they need help they just unmute themselves and ask. We use one Nearpod all day so we can get immediate feedback. It’s worked very well as we are entering our 5th week. We started July 27th

I teach 2nd grade in Southern California and my district requires 2 hours and 15 minutes of synchronous time (15 minutes is required morning meeting.) I teach in 30 minute chucks followed by 30 minutes asynchronous work time, from 9am to 2:15. I don’t feel like I have enough time with that! I’m amazed you’re getting everything in with only an hour! It’s always interesting to see how schools all over the state are tackling distance learning

This was so interesting! Your school district schedule is pretty similar to the school district I will be student teaching in. I love watching distance learning vlogs from other teachers! I like getting ideas and resources from others

They can just turn in their assignment and you can then view their work that way in google classroom. Also, if you haven't heard of the mote extension, that is my new favorite thing! I use that and just add digital stickers to work and it makes my grading and feedback much quicker! :) I have zoom meetings 4x a day (30 min & last one 45 min for a total of 2.25 hours live) and then i have to provide work in between and then I have to video the first 3 sessions and post by 3:15 every day. I wish I had your schedule! I teach Kinder in CA. We weren't given a choice, they made our schedule across entire district and mandate we teach specific subjects during specific time.

I use the exact same intervention binder with sheet protectors with my second graders! I will also make copies of the word lists at the end of each section to send home with my intervention group so they can practice what we worked on at home. I'm also teaching virtually and I wish we had a monthly supplies day. That sounds really nice.

I have that intervention folder as well and I love it. I also used the sheet protectors for the worksheets and my students use a marker so it was easy to wipe off that way we did not have to make copies for everything and it was just easy with my groups. I also taught second grade

Wow. Your schedule is pretty great! I teach 2nd as well in Florida and I am the only elearning teacher for 2nd. The other four second grade classes are face to face. (Parents had a choice). My students are required to work from 8-3 with 25 mins for lunch and 50 mins for specials. Our schedule is supposed to be exactly like in the classroom. I have whole group lessons for morning meeting/social skills, ela, math, and science which is 3 hours total on Zoom, and then I have guided reading groups, reading intervention, and math intervention for another 2 hours and 15 minutes of the day. What I have been doing is just having groups zoom at specific times and then the other students work on reading and math centers, but a coach at my school said that all students should be monitored and on zoom ALL DAY. I honestly think it’s way too much and I’m not sure when/if I’ll get there. I know they want it to be the same as in the classroom, but IT IS DIFFERENT! Thank God for TPT resources because I literally have to make everything we do editable in google slides. It’s been A LOT, but I’m happy to be able to work from home.

Yes I teach Kinder and our district has split all classes into two smaller classes, one group comes in the morning and the other in the afternoon. We have to teach 90 minutes of ELA and 65 minutes of math to each group, which has to include small groups. I'm grateful we have the two smaller classes, but I'm jealous of how much planning time she has.

What are some fun activities that the kids enjoy that you do over zoom? I have tried a 20 questions game where one kid thinks of something and then we all have to try to guess what it is, read alouds, would you rather/ this or that, and show and tell. I also teach second grade. All the things I mentioned my kids have not enjoyed doing, any ideas to help motivate my lazy students?

In our district we cannot make meetings mandatory. We then have an open slot where we call this Q & A for parents or students who were not able to make the meeting. We also have an app that we used called remind and this is used to communicate with parents as well.

That’s up to the parents to figure out unfortunately. If they miss a zoom it isn’t the end of the world but they do miss instruction

Eric and Sam Saldivar Don’t you know people have downtime? And I’m sure taking videos of what she’s doing that day helps her as well. If you’re not a teacher you wouldn’t really understand though. So maybe tone down the judgements.
