Our of curiosity, what about the concept of neutrality? Consider these points together: 1. He can't afford original software. 2. So, if he does not pirate it, the software developer loses nothing. Gains nothing. 3. But if he pirates it, the software developer still loses nothing; gains nothing. If he won't pirate, he will still not buy. So, the developer's wealth is completely neutral in this case. Sure, I am not saying this makes all pirating acceptable. I am asking this only in a case the user cannot afford it anyway, and he will surely not buy. The test can be: Would he buy if there are no pirated copies available? - If yes, then he should not pirate even if pirated are available. - If no, then why should it be haram? (because the developer's wealth is neutral as explained above).
