You guys need to understand that Baltar IS a genius. He didn't just bullshit his way into that, he was given enough information ("you need Plutonium") from Head Six to figure out the way to actually do it in less than 2 seconds.

Tom Zareck is played by Richard Hatch, who played Apollo in the original Battlestar Galactica tv series. He's also been a longtime advocate for reviving the series and has written novels for the franchise. He even took out a mortgage on his home to make a trailer for a proposed film, only for Universal to opt for a remake. In short, his inclusion is a treat. Hatch said when playing Zareck that he didn't think of Zareck as a villain. He's the archetype of "One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter."

BSG is different from a lot of post-apocalypse shows in that there's a functioning government structure and the structure has all the elements to make a government still work under the old system that considers legal rights an important part of the political process. Lee's right. When entering service he swore an oath to defend the laws of the United Colonies of Kobol. It was good to see Lee remind his father of the oath he took.

15:50 The Astral Queen was not specifically a prison ship. It was a cargo carrier the Colonial Government contracted to transport the 1500 prisoners to Caprica for parole hearings and outfitted with temporary cells for that purpose, the voyage expected to last a few days - perhaps a couple of weeks at most. It was not intended to carry prisoners in lock-up for potentially months at a time.

In some ways this episode is an homage to a classic BSG two parter called “The Gun on Ice Planet Zero”. In this episode, the Cylons have been hemming in the fleet to push them into a particular route in space. Why they are doing this is to force them to pass through a section of space containing a frozen planet. On that planet is a massive galactic communication device that the Cylons have revers engineered into a death ray. A plan is concocted to land a team on the ice planet and destroy it. However, the only people in the fleet who have the skills for arctic guerilla combat, mountain climbing and demolition are a bunch incarcerated mercenaries who are former Colonial military. The episode has a lot of interesting subplots and surprises.

I’m pretty sure the prisoner’s ship is just a lightly equipped transport. It’s basically a prison bus that they were all supposed to be on for only several hours at most as they are transported between locations. The few people watching over them are a handful of guards and the bus driver, and they’ve been doing it for around a week or two by this point. I doubt these guards told the prisoners everything at first, as saying it’s the end of the world and all their families are likely dead would no doubt cause problems, up to a full scale riot. They must know quit a bit though, since Zarek knows that Roslin is now president who’s running the show.
@fordhouse8b10 күн бұрын
Well at least one of the guards was working for Zarek, and with Zarek being a very political creature, he probably made sure he is fully informed. He in turn shaped and relayed whatever information was to his advantage to the other prisoners.

It's kinda funny, all of the "it's not the time for that" comments is why you have to take you shoes & belts off at the airport and walk through a full-body scanner that still concerns most of us when it cones to its efficacy and potential health-effects, (enough people accepted the official narrative after 9/11, and now we are stuck with a lot, too much, security theater.) *It's definitely important to always remember that the initial attack in the miniseries is a metaphor for the 9/11 attacks. I keep reminding myself that those attacks were more than 20 years ago, so it is definitely interesting to see y'all, (Normies and other younger reacters,) react to this series. "You can't commit violence and then expect peace," (to paraphrase Mickey,) had me thinking, "smash-cut to literally every revolution in history, (including the French revolution as referenced in the title. Not to mention the USA's rev and the Haitian rev.)" BTW, might be fun to watch y'all play the board game after you finish the series 😏

One of the only failures this show has is they should have had a non-pilot military character... A Marine or something... Who could do these jobs like the rescue attempt. Because even on a ship which is short staffed it makes no sense why a pilot would be put in charge of this stuff other than their a main character
@technofilejr340110 күн бұрын
Exactly. I'm from a family with members in all of the services. I described the Starbuck/sniper scenario to one of my uncles who was a career NCO in the US Army, he laughed. He said "I would never think to tell a pilot how to fly and they definitely shouldn't try to tell me how to take a hill"
@KJGould10 күн бұрын
BSG likes to write episodes that are analogous with modern issues ( the prison system and hard labour), but I would have liked to have seen a bit of common sense by openly asking survivors in the fleet if they have any mining / ice digging & processing experience!

28:01 - 28:29 This is a spot-on assessment. Zarek CANNOT be trusted. No matter how validly he expresses ideas, or expresses ideas which have validity, he uses that validity (and/or: the appearance of logic) to manipulate and will resort to violence at-the-drop-of-a-hat, if, for any reason, he believes he 'isn't being given a valid amount' of power or control or influence, 'has no other choice' or, rather: what he's seeking/demanding is not occurring a) in the manner he wants b) as rapidly as he wants c) he changes his mind (about any principle, process or idea) for any reason d) he discovers a way to use an alteration of opinion or ideology to acheive, either, greater power, further fealty or a more sweeping change (which, in the end, must lead to: his voice, his opines, his ideas, being the things in control and operation (unless he, once again, alters his thinking or feelings -for any reason(s), whatsoever). He's a zealot. He's volatile. He's unbalanced. He is intelligent. He is capable. He fluctuates. He is ruthless. He is manipulative. He is pitiless. He is overbearing. He is, utterly, never to be trusted or believed, fully.

Having Richard Hatch on this episode reminds me of the difference between his Apollo and Jamie Bamber's Apollo. On the original show, Apollo was his own man but he was also fiercely loyal to his father Commander Adama. OG Apollo was definitely a stand up stoic guy and always ready to lead the a desperate mission against the Cylons if it meant giving the human race a chance. Starbuck being his best friend and wingman would usually be right beside him kicking Cylon butt and delivering one liners. I remember in one episode, Adama and Tigh figured out that the Cylons were laying a trap to wipe out the fleet. So they hatched a counter plan between them to circumvent that trap. But to make the plan work all of the pilots (including Apollo) had to be left out of the loop and go to a big public event. After their plan begins, Tigh pulls Adama aside and asks "Why didn't you tell Apollo what we are doing?". Adama just replies with a smile "If I had told him I wouldn't be able to get him to leave my side." That strong bond between Adama and Apollo is what I missed on this version of BSG. The new show has a lot more juicy drama but it would have been better to see Bill and Lee on the same page more often. FYI, as has been said before Adama was the commander's only name on the original show as none of those characters had surnames. So Apollo's real name was just Apollo. Starbuck was just Starbuck etc.
@thechonus3858Ай бұрын
At this point I think Rana and Suraj are continuing to say Tyrol's name wrong on purpose just to make Normie viewers crazy. And hey Mickey - it's Commander Adama, not Admiral Adama 😉
