The most critically and commercially successful instalment of Mission : Impossible to date. _Fallout_ may not be my highest rated entry but it does command my respect as an endlessly rewatchable, blisteringly paced action saga with easily the best climactic set piece of the entire series. The film's trump card is announcing the star power of Vanessa Kirby just as _Rogue Nation_ did for Rebecca Ferguson. Overall an absolute knockout.

Fun fact about those helicopter scenes. Yes, that is Cruise flying it, he got his helo pilots license specifically for this. He did THE most dangerous stunt possible in it (where you basically lose control of the helo and then regain control). The country wouldnt allow anyone else, even stunt pilots, to attempt the stunt.

They required 8 hours a day for three months to get the required mandatory hours, but filming started in half that time so Tom requested permission to do double time at 16 hours a day to meet the requirement and be ready for principal photography's start date. It's also the only reason he isn't shirtless in this entry as his workouts had to go in order to finish his flight hours. The man is The Goat.

On filmmaking skill and craft alone, DePalma's auteur-driven slow-burn murder mystery thriller (and decidedly, not an action movie), Mission: Impossible is a masterpiece! However, I gotta give M:I Ghost Protocol (the fourth one) just a hair's breath of an edge because I have the most fun with that one. I put it on the same level as Fallout. GP and Fallout BOTH balance mystery, action and crazy stunts but while GP gives us fun, Fallout gives us grit & high stakes.

Fun Fact: When Tom Cruise made the jump from building to building when he was chasing Henry Cavill he accidentally hit the wall with his foot at an angle that bent it backwards, like a candy cane, breaking his ankle. Sadly that meant production had to be shut down for months. But crazily, not only did they use THAT take in the movie, but Tom actually finished the shot when he pulled himself up and walked off screen, even with a broken freaking ankle! That man not only is tough as nails and the bravest leading man in business, but is a true and consummate professional. Even severely injured, he will finish the shot! Also the arm cocking that Henry Cavill did in the bathroom fight scene was completely improvised, and the director McQ kept it in the movie thankfully!

I was at CinemaCon when Tom Cruise and the director came on stage and explained (at length) how they did the HALO jump shot. I believe they jumped over 160 times to get the 4 or 5 usable shots they pieced together for the final shot. They jumped over a desert and put Paris in later. The interesting part was that the cameraman had the camera mounted on his helmet, couldn't see what he was shooting and had to do everything Tom did but backward, keeping within a certain distance of Cruise so he would be in focus. That is the major reason why they had to do so many takes.
@mycroft16
@mycroft16 7 күн бұрын
The camera operator could see what he was doing. Ither wose he wouldnt have been able to pull focus during that shot. They essentially just dropped a periscope from the camera down in front of one eye. Enough for him to frame and pull focus. The cameraman had extensive experience shooting paracgute jumps, but had never done a HALO. So he wasnt exactly a noob to this either.

Cruise actually has been producing them since the start he was a huge fan of the 60's TV Show and brought the rights to make it as his first role as a producer.
@KA24DERACER
@KA24DERACER 7 күн бұрын
I dont think he owned the rights until the third one though. Which is why the second one is so different from the others (as it was directed by John Woo who went in a completely different direction than the first one with the silly motorcycle duels and such). After the second one kinda-sorta flopped (it made money, but it was hit-or-miss with the audiences), he bought the rights from whoever owned them before and was able to take over production completely and ensure that they were directed by people who would keep to a more "grounded" style instead of the SUPER styalized direction that Woo took it in.

@ Not true buddy there is a making off on the original VHS with Cruise and his ex Producing partner Pauler Wagner explaining exactly what I just mentioned. The original Idea was for each director to bring their own style to the series but that did change after 3 mainly because JJ Abrihims was brought on as a producer for the series and he kept things consistent, the main driver of this series is Tom Crusie and Now Chris Mcquarrie as he has directed the last 3 films and wrote the 4th. It's defiantly had it's changes over the years. I remember Peter Graves who was the star of the Original series was going to come back for the film but after reading the script quit as he hated that his character Jim would betray the IMF, we was replaced by Jon Voit.

The idea of Cavill as a bad guy was a great idea. Because he was Superman, it was probably thought that people wouldn’t guess he was the bad guy so easily. But, they gave him that douchey mustache, wrote him cocky, and then, his imposing stature, all combined to subvert what was a pretty good initial plan. I still liked him, but he wasn’t as frightening as most of Ethan’s other opponents.

All the Mission Impossible reactions were shot at once, before Harry Potter. But we've been releasing them once a month (and we skipped a month). I was initially going to do it once a week, but the algorithm doesn't seem to be in love with the Mission: Impossible series right now, so I decided to spread it out. Michael reads the comments, he's very aware of peoples feelings and takes it into account and adjusts with each shoot. He recognizes peoples feelings from Harry Potter and other films. All this to say, this reaction predates a lot of the feedback he has learned from. He's a great host. Just please know this was shot like 6 months ago.

Near the end of the 2010s, M:I-6 was indeed the real deal. Christopher Mcquarrie back as director, J.J. Abrams back as co-producer and Tom Cruise of course showing that he's was the movie star and leading this franchise, no doubt. The IMF with their backs against the wall and facing newer threats much like in the tv series. Alec Baldwin (IMF) & Angela Bassett (CIA) as the bosses is super casting. Solomon Lane (Sean Harris) is still frightening from one installment to another. Vanessa Kirby as The White Widow and offspring of a character from the first film was a big surprise. Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson) back in the mix and she's just as dangerous like she should've been finished. New face August Walker (Henry Cavill) was awesome in his performance, you couldn't tell if he was good or evil on either end, not shaving his mustache for reshoots of Justice League (2017) and reloading his arms is iconic beyond belief. I saw this in IMAX, it was spectacular, sound and screen maximum. Action, suspense, drama, visceral, visual, high octane goodness. Shock and awe, you just can't believe what it took to make this phenomenal. Cruise is definitely one of our great action performers and he's not afraid to risk it all to entertain the masses. Your going to enjoy M-I:7 Dead Reckoning (2023) as another grand new story and it's sequel M-I:8 The Final Reckoning is coming in the summer of 2025.

Favorite part of Mission Impossible franchise! 2011's The Raid: Redemption is still in first place among action films.

What is a HALO Jump? A HALO jump (also know as MFF, Military Free Fall) is a military-style High Altitude, Low Open parachute jump, intended to get troops on the ground quickly and undetected. Jumpers exit at high-altitude and freefall toward earth at incredible speeds, waiting as long as possible to open their chutes. This minimizes the amount of time parachutes can be spotted by the enemy, gets soldiers to their target quickly, and allows the jump plane to fly high and beyond the range of surface-to-air missiles. (A second technique known as HAHO (High Altitude, High Open) is also used and we offer HAHO jumps also).

Loved the reaction, Kristen and Micheal. You guys are almost caught up.👏 Only one more Mission Impossible to react to before Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning(MI8) releases this year in May. Fun fact for the next movie: MI7(Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning) and MI8 were initially a 2 part movie. MI7 and MI8 were originally titled Dead Reckoning Part 1 followed by Dead Reckoning Part 2. Also for the next movie the Cliff jump off of a motorbike is the main stunt. Also a fun fact about Mission Impossible: Fallout: The release date of this movie was special as it was released on my 21st birthday.

This one really wanted to up the ante from the previous 5. It has more action, more “save the world” level stakes, and unlike the DCEU, they don’t use CGI to hide Henry Cavill’s mustache. It’s a fun ride and everything, but Tom Cruise should really stop doing his own stunts for this franchise. Because even some BTS footage showed he broke his ankle in one shot for this movie.

They made him grow a moustache for this movie. So why would they use cgi to hide it?

HALO stands for high altitude low open. Chutes are opened at a relatively low altitude in order to land quickly.

Arguably the best in the franchise - the double-pump re-load by Cavill is everything and that fight scene is *chef's kiss* tremendous. Kirby drips with sex appeal and Ferguson makes a DynamicDuo w/Cruise. The literal cliffhanger is beyond awesome. Wait'll you see DR - and seriously Nathan Lane? Good Christ. PS: Kristin - love the bare shoulders - keep that up :D xoxo

Telling people they are about to watch the greatest action movie of all time tends to push expectations through the roof and will end up being a let down for some people. I think it is better to go in with no expectations and be pleasantly surprised. That's just my opinion of course. Sometimes hype can excite people so I get it
