The "BE" stands for "悲", which is a Chinese character means "sadness" or "sorrow", and the choreo when they sing "BE--cause I like you" kinda looks like the character 悲

"I like you" at the end is siyeon \:D/ and yeah that's one hell of a melody and riff, augmented after the bridge in dreamcatcher style :) "be" is the korean pronunciation of the chinese character for sadness, so BEcause could be interpreted as the reason for sadness. a recurring theme in dreamcatcher's discography is staying true to yourself so in this context the song can be interpreted as one's internal struggle between good/evil. that's why there are so many duplicates/mirrors in the mv, combined with pop-culture references of doppelgangers, personality conflicts, and identity crisis. the lyrics suggest one side is trying to tempt you and kill the other half, so you can enjoy life without guilt and inhibitions, because 'you' like yourself and don't want 'you' to be the reason for sadness.

It's so difficult (and also not necessary) to rank Dreamcatcher songs, but after the test of time, I think this has to be among my favourites. Especially because of the hard parts going so hard. The screaming post-chorus bits "forever love" and "forever mine", and "I like you" at the end, just make me wanna scream along.

It’s great to see you learning all their names!!! BEcause really is a bop, and it’s kind of funny how dark it is because it was a summer album release and all the b-sides sound SO different 😂 but that’s DC’s way lol! The theme of BEcause is obsessive/toxic love and is highly inspired by the horror movie Us, such as the use of evil dopplegangers. Throughout the MV we actually see both the “original” members and the dopplegangers who are after them, trying to capture them and turn them into dolls so that, like the song says, they can stay with the dopplegangers forever, because the dopplegangers love them so obsessively they can’t bear to ever be without them. I reeeeaaally really hope DC will be on Queendom. They’d be perfect for it and it seems like they’re one of the most anticipated picks! The girls may have actually given hints that they’re gonna be on it but I’m trying not to get my hopes up too much. Even though I feel like it would be kind of weird for MNET to literally use the BEcause clip in the teaser if Dreamcatcher *wasn’t* going to be on the show. If I remember right from looking it up, the rounds of the show involve doing a cover of another participating group’s song in their own style, doing a cover of their own song in a different arrangement, doing an audience-picked cover (and I will be pushing for them to do Stray Kids’ God’s Menu and Itzy’s Loco until the day I die), a subunit round where they can have one performance group and two vocal groups, and for the finale the release of a new song. Like…there is absolutely no way they wouldn’t dominate this. Every single section would play to their strengths! They do so many rock covers and boy group covers that really set them apart from other groups, plus having Sua for the dance group who actually does choreography and Siyeon to lead the vocal groups.

Well, well, well. Hi there! Dreamcatcher are outdoing themselves here once again. Musically, the song is a fantastic journey. There actually are "cute" parts, but there also are parts where the guitars go full metal. The variations in BEcause remind me of their previous masterpiece, Deja Vu. The bridge with SuA's slow rap and Yoohyeon's adlibs is possibly the most beautiful one they have ever done. About the meaning: According to Dami, BEcause is about love becoming obsession. And also, this is a stand-alone story. They go back to their horror roots, which I really enjoy. They noted that if you look at "BE" as a written Chinese character "悲“, that would mean "sadness". So the song title would mean "The Cause of Sadness". And that would make the lyric "because I like you" to maybe mean "the cause of sadness is I like you". The video picks up on that. JiU seems to be the puppet master here (or her doppelganger!). She is the one trapping the other members and turning them into puppets, but Gahyeon tries to escape (as you can see by her throwing off the cage right in the beginning). It seems JiU catches her again though, "because she likes her". And I didn't even touch on the references to the movie "Us" yet, there is so much going on. The lyrics are even creepier. SuA sings: "Your face turns blue, blue. Your expression is like ocean view.", hinting at strangulation due to the one being obsessed taking things way, way too far. Dreamcatcher are clearly not afraid to tackle the difficult subjects, and they do it masterfully here - again. For me, this is more than just pop, it is art.

I love this song. Many InSomnia said it's softer than usual, but I think it goes hard. Some kind of dnb-rock-pop fusion. I love dnb and rock, so it was an instant love. I love the beat at the start, and after Dami's rap part, it's addicting. Also the bridge, SuA's whisper rapping (with the harmony), and how the last dance break start with that deep piano sound, it's soooo gooooood. Also the visuals. JiU's evil smile, Yoohyeon's turnaround on the podium before the bridge part, Siyeon's doll like movement in those clothes with that hair! Handong is my ultimate love these days, and seeing her in that pink dress, daaaaaamn. For a strange reason Odd Eye was a grower for me although I love grunge and that song has that vibe. Can't wait the comeback, hope it happens soon, I have this strange thing in my heart. I miss the comeback rush, the new thing from them. I know it's gonna be awesome. Ohh, and everybody who are new, or never saw that Handong clip, search for "The iconic Handong clip". Warning, your heart might stop!

I still find it softer, apart from the riff, the rest of the instrumental remains much softer than their normal, it's like Deja Vu, which takes the riff away, and the rest is something like a ballad, and what helps give this impression of not being soft is the look of the MV, and their voices that sometimes give an air of sweet mixed with scary, and of course, there's the Dami part which is different from the rest of the song too

Well well well... to give more context to the song, BEcause is meant to be summer song which in the Kpop industry, it is meant to be fun, cheery and bubbly .... unless the group is Dreamcatcher and it is their take on a "summer" song which is based on a Korean tradition where you tell ghost stories or visit haunted places so that you can feel the "chills" to fight the summer heat. Officially the song unravels a story of an obsession and longing for love. The capitalise BE in the title is used in context as the Hanja character 悲’ (‘BE’) as they sound alike and the word meaning sadness, and the title BEcause could be loosely translate as the cause of sadness, and paired with the line BEcause I like you or BEcause I love you, the sadness is caused by liking or loving someone. Also, the whole creepy toxic vibe is link to the choreography where there is a scene of someone choking another, and the lyrics about "forever mine, even your breath" and then "your face blue...like an ocean view" kind of reflect someone being strangled until the fact turns blue etc. Also, the MV plot theme has another layer that borrowed quite a bit of plot elements from the horror movie "Us" by Jordan Peele where doppelgangers who were forced to live underground depraved of the "finer" things and are trying to are trying to take over their "privileged" above ground counterparts...won't go into much details as it would be better if you watch the movie yourself if you haven't). There are a lot of details in the MV that point to this such as the movie "Us" which has scenes depicting a hall of mirror, someone being captured and replaced, the carnival; similarly the choreography also uses the movie themes such as the doppelgangers holding hand in a chain, the slight side to side head tilts, ending pose of the center member which two hand on her face, mirrored choreography etc.. There are also a few easter eggs for the doppelgangers concept such as the MV is 3:13 minute long (coincidence? I think not) , and that the opening scene and ending scene has the members in completely different outfits (with the ending outfit more whimsical), as well as the completely drain symmetrical hourglass at the end indicating that at some point, the doppelgangers replaced their original counterpart. More impressively, musicality, it plays into the theme of opposite doppelgangers where there is a two part chorus (whimsical and cute, and a more rock follow up) and two part bridge (soft vocals followed up by a deep spoken rap with atmospherically vocals behind) trying to show this mirror duality. Also, I love the Pyscho volin homage during the rap part of the song.

Yoohyeon bias? 👀 I am so glad that BEcause was my first official comeback 😭❤. They served something FIRE for us and its very unique compared to most songs for a Summer Holiday theme. Handong was the blonde who isn't Yoohyeon and you got all the names right. It's good to see you learning their faces. As for Queendom, the checkerboard scene was almost taken exactly from the MV and used in the background of the announcement font. Queendom is a competition where groups compete at a high level in themed live stages and is really great for exposure (like ATEEZ in Kingdom got) so I really hope DC are in the new season

Each round consists of a challenge, such as cover another group's song, create a new song and so on. After each round the groups rank each other, as in "This group did better than we did" and "This group didn't do as well as we did" and the groups are moved up and down the board accordingly. So it's more a peer assessment than it is a popularity contest. I think there is some audience input along the way (it's been a long time) but I think who wins it's primarily based on the peer assessment. If I'm wrong, feel free to correct me. Like I said, it's been a long time since I watched the program.
