I prefer the arcade version's music. Could just be my picky hearing, but to me it sounds like the composers got sloppy with the volume envelope settings while porting the songs to this version.

Ah yes the tough effort of trying to pass the entire game without getting hit once. Remembered how excited I was when finally did it. I did Homing on stages 1-3. Atomic on stages 4-5. and Grenades on stage 6. Amazing game, amazing music. God I miss old games.

This was the first game I ever bought for the SNES. Still a favourite. For the last boss the Photon weapon can destroy it in about 4 seconds.

A very nice game from my childhood, I’m glad they decided to make it available on the Switch. Back in the SNES era I was only able to beat it once and even then it was pure luck that I beat the final boss. The only thing I did different from this playthrough is that I used the Photon cannon when I got to lvl 5 and got the seeking mode for the drones, instead of charging I would spam the fire button manually lol.

Hear Hear! I made it to the point where clearing everything up until the final boss was a snap, but the big man himself I may have defeated maybe once in twenty years. Of course, I always did insist on Search Laser. Guess I just needed some more firepower. And skillz.

Indeed, the final form is extremely hard without a more powerful weapon. It's pretty much a war of attrition so you need to bring in a stronger weapon to stand a chance.

How many times did i hum that ending music. So nice to hear it again. Giving my age a bit but i can remember the day i bought the Snes and a load of shooters just like this. Brilliant memories. Play them sometimes on an emulator but its just not quite the same as having the console and cartridge. Good ole days that's for sure.

Having just beat UN Squadron on Hard mode, I definitely have to beat this brutal game too. I highly doubt I'll do it with no deaths like this animal in the video though ;) You are really kick ass at this game PEG!

I have beaten this game on hard mode and on regular mode with shield stock set at one but can only survive a couple stages on UN Squadron on easy setting.

@@cheetahmikeyirm2179 you should give UN Squadron another shake, if you can beat EDF you can do UN Squadron too. Pick Shin, the gun levels up the fastest and that's what you really need. Use the F14 Tomcat once you can buy it until the last two or three levels, then buy the Efreet. Go get em!

Luna DLL Agreed, it's a very underrated game with very little hype for some reason. For the last boss, I pretty much just try to speed kill him and hope to not take too many shots. Picking the wrong weapon against him is a game over lol.

Actually.. the strongest weapon is explode. I used to play this game a lot and got to the point where im just doing bunch of things on it. I once had a run on level 6 using explode and made it to the 2nd boss (robot stuck on the floor).. i unify all my units where they fire one single shot.. it just so happen that i landed on a precise angle at the face of the robot (since the screen will stop at some point) and the robot didn't even have the chance to fire anything.. I think what happened was all the scatter shot of explode went straight to the robot maximizing its damage.. i never have the same outcome using any other weapons after trying them for hours.. i tried using photon and granade on the same angle but never worked like explode did. In any case.. i guess u can only maximize explode on certain enemies. soo yeah just wanted to throw that one for you guys..

I played this the other day on my Switch. When I played it originally on my Super Nintendo, I never used grenades. I found them hard to use. But damn if that final boss isn't a total pain in the ass with any other weapon! But when you use grenades, it's as weak as a wet noodle. I think I could probably beat hard mode if I put some effort into it. The most intimidating thing in this game is that final boss. But if you can make it with grenades, you can absolutely wreck it!

I’m playing this on Switch and I like it. This video gave me a few pointers on what weapons to use, although the game feels designed with homing shots in mind. In the first level you kinda have to use homing

Not necessarily. I've seen people use even photon to great effect right from the start. If you charge a shot and hold it while in union mode, it can essentially function as a shield that'll destroy any enemies that touch it; and you can always fire it if you need to take out a line of enemies in one go. I've seen photon only runs that prove just how good it is in light of its drawbacks. Believe me.

Holy fuck! I knew grenade was really good, but fuck is it ever OP at lv.5. Seeking mode practically mitigates its biggest drawback with how you have to aim it slightly otherwise. And then there's the fact that atomic can destroy any weaker enemy projectiles caught in its blast radius. That's just as OP.

Been playing this on the switch the last couple days, having recently come to appreciate classic shmups. I've been abusing the rewind feature every time i get hit, letting me practise the whole game. It seems for weapon selection, you need some sort of homing capability in stages 1 and 2, with either s. laser or homing, but i guess s. laser has better damage at lower accuracy. I like using photon on stage 3 seeing as theres fewer small fast enemies. I'm yet to know much about what's best after unlocking the last shooting mode (which provides homing capability), it seems grenade kills bosses fastest, better than atomic, but I'm not sure.

The plot of the game is that in stages 1-3 you defend earth from an alien invasion, in stage 4 you defend orbiting space habitats. In stage 5 and 6 you take on their base on the dark side of the moon.

shaunthesheep24 if I remember correctly you get extra shields based on your score, the more kills you get the more extra shields you get.

@@Hartbreak1 I was only able to get an extra shield when I got to Level 6. Once you fill up your bar for level 5, it resets to base level 5 again, but gives you a shield in return. Fill up the bar again and the same will happen.
