It is only 1 day earlier than in 2017, while before it decreased at the rate of 5-6 days/year. There is finally some light at the end of the tunnel.

Thanks for your great comment. There is definitely some light at the end of the tunnel but one has to look at the trend as opposed to individual years and right now, the trend is still going up, although not quite as fast as it used to: see the world's ecological footprint vs biocapacity on the Open Data Platform: data.footprintnetwork.org/#/countryTrends?cn=5001&type=BCtot,EFCtot

Hi Alex and friends, I just added Dutch subtitles for this video. I would like to use it next week. Do you thing that it will be confirmed by that time?
@learnsustainability4 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for your contribution Ineke. I approved the Dutch subtitles (recognizing that I could not verify them as I don't speak Dutch) and I added "Overschrijdingsdag van de Aarde" as the title. Please confirm that it is right.
@inekevanbeijnum6084 жыл бұрын
@@learnsustainability Yes, it is right. But 'Aarde Overschrijdingsdag' is better. It sounds a bit strange as we are also familiar with the english title. I found the use of the word Overschrijdingsdag also in a national newspaper last year. www.trouw.nl/duurzaamheid-natuur/alles-wat-de-aarde-in-een-jaar-kan-leveren-is-nu-al-op~b380debc/

Earth Overshoot Day occurred on my birthday August 1st 2018 here’s a fact about Earth Overshoot Day. Earth Overshoot Day marks the date when humanity’s demand for ecological resources and services in a given year exceeds what Earth can regenerate in that year.

YOU HAVE zero kids: Your are responsible for 1 lifte-time-consumption (your own). YOU HAVE 2 kids: You are responsiible for 2 lifetimes of consumption (your own and 50 percent of the life-time-consumptions of your 2 kids). If (in average all your descendants) have 2 kids each: After 32 generations you will have been responsible for 33 lifetimes of comsumption. YOU HAVE 4 kids (and all your descendants 4 kids too): After 32 generations you will have been responsible for the sum: 1+2+4+8..(2 to the power of 32) which makes 8589934591 (about 8.6 billion) life-times of consumption.

@BertTheAce The current situation is: The tax payer (this is the one who does not have too many kids) pays taxes so that the "occupation" "mother" can even exist. And yes: Halving population every generation by 1-child-policy would solve this "over-shoot-issue". Since only 15 percent of the energy sources on earth are sustainable one does need to shrink the population (at least) down to 15 percent of the current one. But this video you put a link into your comment is a bit lenghty compared to those 4 sentences I just uttered. And the "music" is annoying. Why do you not allow comments (this is a rethorical question). I gave a like anyways. But maybe you find the time to do it over since overpolution is the biggest problem of all and everybody needs to understand: There is only 1 way to prevent your kids from hardship: DO NOT HAVE ANY! Creating sentient beeings without their consent is pure evil! Regardless whether their life and dying will be all bliss or not.
@tikrulez6 жыл бұрын
No, the 2 kids example is wrong, its waaay more than 33, it's 1+2+4+8+16+32 etc. The 4 kids example should be 1+4+16+64+256 etc

Totally bullshit calculation. Two countries: Poland and Norway. Both countries have sea, both have fishing industry. All electricity in Poland comes from burning coal. All electricity in Norway comes from totally ecological hydropowerplants. Norway even sells this green power to other countries and uses it for charging of a lot of electric cars. And, according the bullshit Earth Overshoot is Norway worse than the coal burning Poland. Norway has its overshoot day (18 April) even one month earlier than the coal burning Poland (15 May). It is simply nonsense.

Deforestation is a myth. Since 1986 the earth is 14% greener. Only since 2000 forrest area has increased by the size of the Amazon. Meanwhile the yields have increased while farmland have decreased. Fishery has flatlined. I think that overshoot day might be highly exaggerated.
@akostrepinszki73185 жыл бұрын
Sounds interesting, can you please provide a source for your data? According to www.fao.org/state-of-forests/en/ The area of the world's forest have been stable since 1990. Deforestation example: it happens in a speedy manner in Borneo, that they burn down rainforests to plant oil palms. It still remains a forest in the long run, but the 1000s of plant species been replaced with only one, making it non-liveable for animals other than small insects.

I know that this is debated, but ecologically, grassfed beef SEQUESTERS carbon. Not distinguishing between feedlot beef and animal grazing that improves grasslands (grasslands co-evolved with their herbivores!) makes your entire calculation suspect. I won't be forwarding this because the calculator seems to come to the conclusion that the ONLY thing we can do for the planet we rely on is to get sick from a vegan diet that fails to have the essential fatty acids to sustain human brain function. This is not helping us move the date or move toward a lasting solution at all, sadly.
