I saw Ms. Kitt one year before her death. I say this always: she is in the top 10 concerts I ever saw. She sang in 4 languages. I love her idea to plant cotton fields for agents to pick. She was wonderful.

I sadly never got the opportunity to see her perform live, though I always wanted to. She died when I was only 17; I had grew up watching her in film and television, and I loved her music even then. When I got the newspaper and saw on the front page that she had passed, my entire day was ruined. I now had a dream that would never come true.

What a strange set of circumstances to be caught up in. Having to wait for some judge to tell YOU who your father is. Having some white person snuggling up to you and "now that you're famous", finally admitting that you are "in the family". Eartha Kitt might have had a worst fate had she known these racist creeps. Another point: Being "biracial" is suddenly fashionable these days, but biracial people are still seen as "exotic" rather than human.

Makes you think who wrote the father's name on the certificate. Also why didn't the clerk correct it? They sure enough do it today.

Yeah, probably from when she was in Paris for 10 years, but I think she had a distinguishable accent before that. She spoke 3 or 4 different languages. And I think it was somewhat her persona of being a sultry exotic woman.

"Yella girl" does not mean that "you have no color at all." Eartha Kitt's interpretation of this phrase has always warranted questioning. It's as if she wanted to add as much unnecessary drama to this phrase as possible, and then attach it to herself. Never understood why she felt the need to do that. Eartha Kitt has been Amazing in so many ways.

Yella girls and boys were mixed and it’s the same as coloureds in Africa - the white fathers wanted a distinction made between black people and their children with black women. She’s right. Relax.

They thought because of her history and being an orphan she couldn’t be one of the best. I know someone who was a rape baby and it tears us up talking about it! And the fact that the judge has the RIGHT to grant something like that goes to show you have messed up our system is. He can rape a women but not be named or held accountable! That a hard pill to swallow!

Angie Coers exactly. I don’t believe Eartha Kitt’s story about being biracial. Look at Lena Horne, who looked half white or mostly white but came from two black light skinned parents.

Asha - Eartha Kitt could’ve simply said she doesn’t know who her father is...like so many people don’t know. She didn’t need to suggest that her father is white. Nothing biracial about her. She is caramel brown with African features. End of story.

Its what the term meant to her , its her experience of it, which would of course be different to others. She felt neither whites nor blacks wanted her or valued her, so , she was nothing/no colour . You cant dictate how she interpreted it really. We are all different & interpret meaning differently. Plus those were different times, regarding race & all its issues.
