This made me so happy. Even though they aren't my (19pounds of) stones you're identifying, it's really really nice to be a part of. It's as if I actually have another person on this earth to talk about stones with.

It's like Christmas! Most of these had little value but hte unboxing and mystery was the best part

@@earthartgems definitely! I'd pick a box of random stones and crystals over literally anything else... only third to a box of kittens and a box of unique containers (to put all of the stones in).

17:44 looks like Anthracite coal , the high carbon stuff doesn't leave black marks on your fingers, and is quiet lightweight big lumps wash up on the beach here in wales (not light enough to float on salt water but easily transported by the currents).

Thank you! I've been wondering what that stuff was :)

Those Cacoxinite In amethyst are actually goethite in amethyst. Cacoxinite does not occur as an inclusion in Quartz. Check Mindat

5:20 correction: you only get a star out of sapphire, like many other star gems, if there is rutile or hematite or some sort of needle like inclusions of a shiny mineral inside of the gemstone. The rutile or hematite inclusions in sapphire are what causes the star or cats eye effect, not the internal structure of the host gem. And the needles of rutile have to be aligned a certain way in certain amounts for it to throw a star, otherwise it is just cats eye sapphire. I have alot of cats eye and star sapphire, and some star garnets with 4 rays. Star and Cats Eye gemstones are my favorites after feldspar gemstones. I cut my stones myself into pre-forms using a dremel diamond wheel and I used high grit sandpaper and then polishing compounds to bring out the stars and eyes better so I could get a rough idea of what the finished gem will look like. I must say I am very pleased with my results

Ruby and Sapphire are both corundum, so a star ruby is just a red/pink star sapphire. So stars are very possible in ruby.

I didn't cut any of these, I am showing them exactly as they were out of storage. But someone did, probably 30 or 40 years ago :)

The first pink mineral is lepidolite and the second green one is olivine or better known in gem form as peridot.
