In the Cave of the Past, how do you make it so that only the bionic kraken with the gutsy bat spawns? Saw this in another run but there isn't anything detailing how it works. (They used the bread roll and everything, the fight was exactly the same with the green light.)

Yo gamer, sit back because this is gonna be a bit long winded. So the game has certain RAM values that influence spawns, drops, RNG in general. We refer to these as RNG 1, 2, and 3. 1 and 2 are directly influenced by the player. This being opening the menu, cursor movements, and even each character of text being printed on the screen. 3 is changed when we “update” it by crossing through 64 x 64 pixel invisible squares in the map. When I reset at the phase distorter in cave of the past, these values are set to flush and we can manipulate from base values again. In order for this to work. All characters must have a single character name to progress the right amount of RNG 1 and 2 values. If done right, you manipulate 0 fights up until the kraken, and then get the gutsy bat! I believe there’s explanations on RNG manip on speedrun.com/earthbound if you are looking for more info

Theres a glitch that if Ness's condition is critical, positioned near the top of a staircase and with precision, he can glitch out of the area. All areas are stitched all into one giant map. Moving out of boundary far enough can move you somewhere else (Onett is connected to Ness's Dream, for example). By using the Sound Stone, it will refresh the map, showing it. I don't know exactly the process, so I suggest watching the video that the comment above said.

There’s a mechanic called “guts” that allows you to sometimes survive a fatal hit with 1 HP. This run manipulates that to occur in some places

21:25 - 22:35 was a completely incomprehensible mess to me. I understood the clips and skips up to that point, but the arrival in Summers just didn't compute. Is there an explanation video or something for how the series of glitches there work?

Think of the entire world of earthbound as if it were inside a single map, where everything is connected. When you go out of bounds and into the void you don’t just enter an area of nothingness, you can transition to other rooms throughout the game. The rooms in the same area also are not next to each other in this map in the game’s memory, which is why I ended up in Summers instead of a place adjacent to Threed, in this example. I don’t have a video on this yet, but there might be one in the future!

@@jameson5508this is also how the infamous Tent Glitch happens. The threed circus tent is on the very bottom right corner of this grand grid map and cramming yourself as far into a corner as you can basically lets you interact with something that doesn’t exist. The game reacts… strangely

When you transition to a set of stairs, you temporarily lose control of your character. If you interrupt that with a pop up, the game stops the transition and leaves you in the void that’s the game’s memory. That void contains every room in the game, and if you know how it’s laid out, you can go to a whole bunch of places you wouldn’t normally be able to. tl;dr: I’m basically hacking

Jaxton OwO I played with a original model Super Famicom controller with new inside silicon rubbers. The SFC controllers have more of a “clicky” feel to them that makes them more satisfying to use!
