John Doe I also realize an individualist outlook is not ideal, but neither is attacking others, and I recognize that we can't pay attention to everyone's needs, but we should not give them anger over their needs. If a starving child asks you for a fish, do you give them a snake? No, you either say you have no food to give and walk away, or you give them a fish. The person is just of another gender, and you are attacking them over that, which is wrong. The Mother franchise is amazing. In my opinion some of the greatest RPG's ever made. All three have literally hardly any flaws at all and are so amazingly fun to play. With great characters, touching stories, a wonderful soundtrack, very fun gameplay, and pretty graphics, this series is fantastic.

Sandy McTire That's funny because the buggy mess that was EarthBound on SNES is what prevented me from renting or buying JRPGs until FF7. I don't think I played more than 1 hour of Earthbound. Ummm...EarthBound = buggy mess? I'm sorry but no. Nothing about EarthBound is buggy or messy. There are only one or two glitches in the game and they can't happen without you going out of your way to do them. I mean yeah opinions and all on games vary but this is one of those rare cases where you literally can't have a real negative opinion on EarthBound. If you played through it most of the way/all of the way you'd realize how wrong you are on this. That may sound like a jerkish thing to say but this is one of those great by fact games. I don't know what you are looking for in an RPG but this game has literally everything you could want from an RPG. If you have problems with the games' structure then you aren't playing the right genre as opposed to it being actual problems. It's fine to not be into a certain type of game. That's A okay. But please don't act like the game is crap just because you aren't into the genre. Also 1 hour is not enough to judge a game. You need to play through most of a game to fairly judge it. Especially if it is an RPG. You can't just play one hour and then think that's enough to judge the game. That's biased and unfair.

I would say in Earthbound, after getting to all the sanctuary locations, Ness gets ridiculous buffs not only from the sanctuaries but from grinding alone in Magicant that cause him to overly outclass Paula, Jeff, and Poo. This has the consequence of every location after that basically having Ness as an unkillable monster while the other three struggle to stay alive. You could say I could have grinded the other three characters to help them catch up, but Ness is always ahead, especially since Paula and Jeff arrive at lvl 1, and there's also those sequences where Paula is kidnapped and Poo leaves to train, meaning they fall further behind. I'd say those, while not gamebreaking, are indeed flaws. Once all the sanctuaries are discovered, all four characters should have been buffed with the later places given higher difficulty to compensate, and characters should arrive at a level respective of the area you find them in.

lkjkhfggd What Ness has over the others in health the others have over him in their own abilities. Paula has the most wide array of PSI abilities in offensive and defensive as well as the ability to change luck into the players' favor with her prayers, Jeff has his ability to rebuild broken items and make them into strong weapons and the ability to steal items from enemies, and Poo not only is a strong martial artist but also knows PK Starstorm and can change into an enemy to use their abilities against them which can be very useful with strong opponents.

The end of the original Mother is pretty unbalanced, but other than that it was really good for 8-bit RPG standards.

Dexcat It's not really that unbalanced. Just make sure you are powerful enough and you'll be fine enough. Yes the game requires a good amount of grinding and leveling up but if you make sure to do that you'll survive Mt. Itoi no problem. I guess you could say that the grinding is tedious but keep in mind this is an NES RPG with random encounters. RPG's back then were structured like this.

5:24 Interestingly enough, in the english version of super smash bros. for the 3ds, those octopus statues stayed as an obstacle for the magicant stage rather than being replaced with the magic pencil like in the english version of mother 2, however, this was most likely the case because if they were to replace the octopus, they would have to change the hit-box and the model of it as well... *That, and you cant really stand on a giant pencil, as that would probably be equal to standing on a spike, an as we learned form Mega Man, well...*

Maybe he means with an established property, like Zelda or Mario, so that if it's bad, at least the characters and recognized property will the sell the game regardless. It's the same reason Hollywood is fond of remakes and sequels. If people are familiar with something, they're more likely to spend money on it because they might trust it more. They missed my favorite bit of Earthbound trivia. When you confirm a menu option during character creation, you hear a man speaking. This is actually Shigesato Itoi saying "Ok desu ka?" Another Fact is about when you speak to Porky (Mistranslated as Pokey in North America), He says that he was spanked for losing his brother Picky in the Japanese version (he said his butt hurts) but in the North american Version he said that he was yelled at and was grounded from dessert. The localization team also had to rewrite buzz buzz's lines as the included the word "die", this was altered to "everything is getting dark." A similar concept was used to Lardna Minch (Pokey's Mother), In the original version (japan) She says "A pesky toilet fly! Die and go to (underworld)!" In the english version, she says "I think it is a dung beetle! i'll Smash your guts out!" Mr, Itoi Had inspiration for the final boss, based on a childhood trauma. When Itoi was a young boy, he accidently walked into an adult theater and witness a scene from the japanese Mystery Horror film, Subtitled Military policemen and the dismembered beauty. There was a murder scene that he mistook for a r*pe Scene, and became frightened after witnessing it, and his parents began to worry about his well being. But when deciding the final boss, Giygas (or Gyiyg in the original) he wanted to created the feeling he had when seeing the scene, not reanact it.

See I was 9 and my dad was a gamer and he always moded my consoles he moded my xbox and it played emulators. So I actually grew up playing earthbound/mother but not from the original console. The Xbox had like 300 roms of nes and stuff. I never beatin the game though. I still have the xbox not pluged in so I can go see if I actually had it on there o:

Not to rag on him or anything but I would of suggested re-recording his dialogue because it's a little silly, there are plenty of people who just aren't going to be able to keep up with how fast he is blurting all this info out, even more so when he has a pretty noticeable slur.
