This was such a delight and nostalgia trip to listen to while I was drawing. I played Earthbound when I was a kid growing up in the 1990s, and that game would go on to change my life in ways that I never could have imagined. I met some of my best friends because of that game, and I got to meet Itoi himself just last year. It's been such a surreal experience.

My wife is a really incredible guitarist and can memorize pieces on the instrument very quickly... So once, when we were teens, I had had a particularly bad day and couldn't sleep that night. So, knowing how much I love classical music, she learned this piece and sat next to my bed playing it all night until I fell asleep. I can't listen to it without getting a little teary-eyed now.

what does this even mean? you heard the wide variety of instrumentation used on earthbound as two guitars? earthbound OST's instrumentation and arrangements are incredibly complex and dynamic. yes, these guys, as usual, did a great job transcribing and arranging/performing as a guitar duo, but to act like this is a more accurate representation of what the original composers intended than the game's OST itself is bizarre to me. just because a game was released in 1994 doesn't mean it needs to be 'updated' or 'brought to life', especially a game with as excellent a soundtrack as earthbound. go back and listen to the soundtrack. you're probably not remembering how good it actually is. the snes had an excellent soundchip. i'd rather listen to, for instance, the final fantasy 3/6 snes OST than any modern update or 'classical' version. there was so much feeling in those soundtracks, so much thought and care put into their arrangements and production. they are already perfect as is.
