As a hand builder I can’t wait to try this. I also do slipcasting so this would be really amazing to do with plain slipcast pieces!! If the piece is too dry just spray the inside well so the wet slip on the outside will match with the wetness of the inside.

I’m assuming the slip you are using is the same as the body of the piece. I’m using standard red clay for the body of the piece but would prefer a different color than the terracotta of the bisque fired piece. Can I use a white/tinted color slip over the green piece before firing? Thanks, T

I love these ideas. I only mentioned the bottles to provide options against the "baby syringes" for slip trailing. I love these ideas so much more.

Just obsessed with your videos! You just really help me understand pottery especially cause I can’t take any pottery classes in the near future. And every anime/ gaming hunt just makes me smile. And Ocarina of Time was always my favorite (even though I was so scared of the Wallmasters)

I dont know if you read this comment, but do you have a vid on making a under-glaze from this liquid pasty clay ? Thanks. I just found your channel and I like it. New to pottery and the chemistry behind the heating and change on atomic level. .

To get a smoother slip coverage without the little groggy nibs that could end up rough would be to sift the slip. It will take a while and be tedious, but you'll end up with silky smooth finishes like Old Forge Creation's drippy slippy mugs.
@EarthNationCeramics4 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah. You can use porcelain slip, sieve the slip thru a mesh, could sand it down in the buisque. Buncha ways to get it very smooth.

Do you find that your slip bucket starts to smell? Have you ever added vinegar to help with that?

Your videos are the best! Question, for decorative purposes, could I use a darker clay slip on a lighter clay object? ( or vice versa)? or does the slip have to be the same clay type as the base.... thanks for thoughts.
@EarthNationCeramics4 жыл бұрын
Yes but I highly suggest you make sure they are the same cone at least as well as try to get them as closer in type . For example don't mix high grog high iron Black mountain clay with porcelain

Do you find texturing this way can leave sharp edges and points on the piece after firing?
@EarthNationCeramics4 жыл бұрын
I usually just sand them down so even if they look sharp they are not actually Sharp. But if you want to you could definitely just leave it that way
