Shawn I so appreciate the updates. Heading for the Big Island on Thursday and will be going out to the national park. I ordered an eruption for my visit!

I tried that too in February. My order went unfulfilled. Better luck to you.

I really wish they had more cameras in that area. Im guessing its a area problem with getting data to them. one live camera, and a half dozen still frames in 2024 is strange..especially for such an active volcano.

Been thinking the same! We need livecams on the flanks! I've been spoiled by the Icelanders! Would love to watch Kilauea flank cams!

@@Dranzerk8908 nah, they have 5g and 4g coverage over the entire area. Probably 4000+ tourists visit the volcano per day.

Was just there yesterday and did a 9 mile hike in Kilauea Iki, crater rim and Halema’uma’u trail. Lots of fumaroles on crater bottom, no eruption! I thought I felt a little quake when hiking through Kilauea Iki but my wife said I was imagining it.

When I first moved here in 1994 the roads included around the southern flank. There was a lower crater viewpoint and the trail leading to the edge was ridden with some steam/gas funerals. That whole road got closed years ago with the crater collapse. 2018 was an indicator of the possible drainage paths that still exist.

Looking at 23:45 BST there still appears to be a lot of earthquakes per hour in that same patch. The way things are going Shawn will have to livestream his updates!

I don't hear much more about Pu'u O'o, nor does it appear on any maps I have looked at. Even more frustrating it isn't accessable by car! I'm kidding of copurse, but next update could you put it on your maps? Thanks in advance. I reallly enjoy and learn a lot from your lectures, including the Geology 101 shorts.

Hi Shawn, is there lots of extra movement being done with all tectonic plates, there is 2 ongoing in Italy and Iceland is awaiting to blow along with this one you are now talking about. Does this mean many volcanos could start at the same time
@Sebastian-f7f3 ай бұрын
The earthquakes timeline makes it look like magma is moving southeast, would that be a fair assumption? Or is it "just" rock breaking in the same direction and nothing else should be taken away from that?
@petramaas85743 ай бұрын
Thank you for the update. I just wonder how you got the quake data of the 24th of july. Over here in Europe and over there in Hawaii it is still the 23st. Do you have a time machine?

Since the area is called a rift zone, is there any probability of a collapse of the rift into the sea, and if so, would the volume of material be large enough to trigger a tsunami?

I checked USGS about the Texas quake today and noticed something rather odd. There was a string of quakes around the Pacific area, one was between Vancouver Island and Queen Charlotte islands, and around Alaska peninsula, and New Guinea all at 0500 UTC. I thought it was quite odd really. There were quite a few others listed all at the same time. Was I reading the site wrong? They listed local times and followed with UTC. Anyone else notice that? Thanks for your information and I enjoy the videos you make. Oh yeah I found out about you from watching Nick Z's videos.😊

can magma travel sections of east rift zone without causing earthquakes? aka could it have traveled beyond the area of earthquakes without any signs? or are earthquakes and defirnation very reliable tools to determine extent of travel of magma below?

You heard me say it before Willsey Kilauea does not sleep that volcano is still active spewing out lava and making new land. More earthquakes at Kilauea means eruption is immanent.

As of a few days ago, there were 50 volcanos actively erupting around the planet. I'm not sure if that is the information you wanted, or if you wanted the amount of active volcanos whether erupting or not, but here's the information I have, but it may not be up to date.
