Andy I watched both your reviews of this pedal and the giygas pedal and they are both stone cold awesome. I am now torn between Hizumitas Fuzz and Giygas fuzz. I play bass for a stoner rock group with similar tones to electric wizard black sabbath O.R.B etc. I'm leaning toward the giygas because I play both guitar and bass and I love that this has switchable eq but the Hizumitas is also equally inpressive. I had an original Elk Sustainer and then the Wren and Cuff white elk at one point in time. I have to be honest that neither of them sounded better than a good Muff, imo. Unless there's something special about this one (can't wait to try it), I'm pretty sure I would still prefer a Muff. The "Elk" style muffs always have insane amounts of low end and hardly any mid-range. So in the bedroom, they do a great Smashing Pumpkins thing but struggle to cut in a mix. Even more so with drop tunings. Based on everything I've heard from this pedal, it sounds very much like an Op Amp Muff. That might be a good thing and I'm hoping that this one can actually poke through a mix. I'd be totally on board for one if so. As it stands now, I'm pretty keen on the Big Muff Tone Wicker and the Skreddy Mayo as my two fave Muffs. P19 if I'm trying get Gilmour type leads.
@TheNeonMuppet3 жыл бұрын
I just picked up an op amp and I’m sitting here going, wait, this sounds exactly like the pedal I just bought. And trying to talk myself down from ordering, and u just confirmed it haha. I sounds almost identical to my ears. But, then again, one can never have too much muff
@LeviBulger3 жыл бұрын
@@TheNeonMuppet lol yeah there'd probably be a lot of overlap between the two. Are you into Rats at all? I find that between a good versatile muff and a Rat, you can cover a LOT of ground in the realm of that particular type of fuzz. I really really like the Tone Wicker Muff for versatility and its immediate attack, but if the Deluxe Big Muff wasn't so big, I would absolutely use that as my only one. It's even more versatile. It can even do the Elk/Op Amp type of tone.
@TheNeonMuppet3 жыл бұрын
@@LeviBulger I haven’t entered the rat world yet. I’m still stuck on the ds-1. I think I’m gonna pull the trigger on the new JHS pack rat. I figure I can’t go wrong and will probably be the cheapest way to explore all the different ones. Do u stack ur fuzz with the rat? I find with them ds-1 and the op amp, they don’t play that nice together it’s kinda one or the other. But I would like to be able to stack them.
@LeviBulger3 жыл бұрын
@@TheNeonMuppet The Rat will change your life! Lol. I would honestly skip the pack rat. There's almost no difference between all the different Rats that came out through the years other than the components. Not only that, but everyone I've talked to about the Pack Rat says none of the modes sound better than a basic Rat, and that like most JHS pedals, they have way too much high end which is definitely something the Rat doesn't want. The overall best Rat for the money that you can get is probably the Fat Rat. Or if you want to stay budget friendly, I can vouch that the mini Rat they released a few months ago is awesome and you can even upgrade the chip if you want. But I personally love the Fat Rat. What's funny is that for years Josh Scott has been saying that a Rat is a Rat is a Rat and now suddenly he's changing that tune so he can sell his new pedal. All the modes seem to just have different frequency centers, so basically it's just like changing the dial on the gain ans filter knobs. Go for the Proco is my advice.
@LeviBulger3 жыл бұрын
@@TheNeonMuppet By the way, the DS1 rocks too! I play through Fenders mostly so I don't use them much anymore, but when I fire up the Marshall, I love plugging in the DS1 and a chorus pedal to get some gnarly 80s or Nirvana tones.
