Beautiful! I love it! They make me cry happy tears. So wonderful! I am so thankfully appreciating you, all of you that help Mr. Michael Reynolds. Bless all of you. Keep it up. Our planet needs us to help it and us survive in sustainable homes like these.

Has anybody seen an earthship style house that uses shipping containers full of earth for it's thermal mass? Just daydreaming. Been a fan of Micheal since the freaking Whole Earth Catalog!

I would like to see a combined two or three story earthship with vertical green house tower technology. It would greatly increase the space for growing food. Have the normal earthship but add to at least one side a multi floor vertical green house with a small spiral staircase or spiral ramp going up the different levels.
@ethnodrew5 жыл бұрын
Nofretari, that’s been done, there are problems with going vertical unfortunately. Maybe you can figure it out! You’d have to deprecate the levels for sure, to keep from cooking the upper level-the top of greenhouses get hot af

Thanks for your comment. We have built 2-3 story greenhouse structures on non-standard earthship models. They do perform well for food production but pose different issues for consideration such as TOO much solar gain. We have designed entire tiered cities of earth ships with bike paths through the open air greenhouses to connect the buildings.

@@earthship Would adding more whirly birds to the roof help reduce the temperature of the upper rooms? Or would that not be enough?

I am dying too see examples of village sized earthships! I would love to see this building style as an alternative option for low income housing. How would you make an earthships apartment complex of some sort? Can it be done?

My curiosity runs free watching this. Suppose I was able to obtain approval within an urban environment. What would your thinking be for a 100x100 ft suburban lot?

I'd like more information about this design but the link above is not working.

I have a quick question; I live in a subtropical area (New Caledonia) and was wondering if your structures could be a good option for us here?! There’s no winter, only hot summer, lots of rain during that season, and a cooler season (16 degrees Celsius at night)! If it can be built, which of your models and/or materials are appropriate?! Thanks in advance!

I have two questions. I want to build a retro u-model earthship. 1) You who live in these - how is it with dust in the corners (I know there are no corners) compared to a house with square rooms? As for me I am really oversensitive to loud. 2) Is it possible to build in the pumps to be completely loud isolated?

Hi, Have you considered using Gabions instead of tires? I am skeptical about how "healthy" it is long term, to be surrounded by tires. I also think gabions would be less labor intensive. FYI in case you aren't familiar with gabions, they are steel cages filled with big rocks.

@earthship5 жыл бұрын
Kenawa Island west of West Nusa Tenggara. Cost is highly variable depends on how much labor and recycled materials you have available.

You mentioned the "Breeze-Maker" in the video, I've been following Earthship for several years now and haven't heard that term before. I googled it, in conjunction with earthship and couldn't find anything else on it, other than this video. Is this new technology? If so, how does it work? Looks like the top vent is painted black, and has rounded outlets that maybe cause a circular current of air as the hot air rises and passes out the vent? What is behind this new design for the vent?
@dzikomuah33036 жыл бұрын
Tyler Parsons Notice this home is for a tropical environment. Hence, the difference in design. There are more ventilation tubes and I can only speculate that the “breeze makers” help to release the heat and continually cool. I would like more information on the earthship design for tropical climates myself
@HectorHugoLG5 жыл бұрын
The ventilation tubes are the weak point, they are just suspended in the mid air.
@earthship5 жыл бұрын
They are actually buried into the berm and lodged mid wall which when finished is about 4' thick (not including the berm).

I thought earthships did not work in humid climates ? Why is the Florida one an EPIC FAILURE ? Look Mikey, they’re great in New Mexico and Colorado but humid climates.......not so much.
