Evidently red bull doesn't give you wings as fast as a falcons… but still pretty darn fast! This was an awesome vid!
@InvisiblesilenceA8 жыл бұрын
So much fun watching the behind the scenes. Gotta give credit to the final production, seeing as all these shots are bits and pieces of nearly a dozen of these chases; looks great to watch and doesn't seem like split pieces. From the looks of it, the falcon kept catching the bait *within 15 seconds* of Lloyd removing its hood, which is why they had to do so many shots. This vid, although awesome, doesn't do the Falcon's hunting skills justice. I'd want to see this be done with a Goshawk (as RHCowboy mentioned) or a Swift (arguably the most aerially skilled bird on the planet).

In Victoria Canada, we get crows doing it, even seagulls if grumpy and hungry enough! I bet magpies are related to crows. They behave and look similar. Saw a hilarious vid of some guy getting attacked by one, funny shit.

Amazing video the slow-mop of the bird is unbelievably insane the changes in body movement are so rapid and precise to cool
@RHCowboy10 жыл бұрын
Very cool video. What's even more amazing is that an agile catch like that isn't even the peregrine's strong suit. Peregrine's are known for their speed (a dive of around 200mph). When they dive at that speed, they are hunting other birds such as pigeons which are in flight and not prone the the back/forth of the cyclist. That amazing dive speed is more like a bullet hitting a target that is comparatively crawling. An African Goshawk (known for extreme mobility in wooded areas) would snatch that target without even trying.

As a falconer I liked the vid. It was pretty obvious it was multiple takes as I've never known a peregrine to take so many missed passes without giving up. Still a great idea though. The falcon could have got the Bait in the 1st 30 seconds, but something is throwing it off. either a small electric shock to tell him not to get the bait yet, or some sort of signal that tells him not to snatch it yet for the sake of the video,otherwise it'd be a 30second video. You can see plenty of times where he couldve just swooped in and taken it, but he doesn't, you can see something makes him dart away.
@lucasart32810 жыл бұрын
i know hesitation, like when you could easily cross the road in time before a car gets to that spot but you dont.
@BeyondTheMind00710 жыл бұрын

@BenedictusFan10 жыл бұрын
No way it could be an electric shock, it would need to earth and the only way that would happen is through a charge strong enough to jump; a charge that would be so strong the bird would be dead and have its feathers fried
@BeyondTheMind00710 жыл бұрын
BenedictusFan I meant trained to dart away from the target when they shock him a bit. It's a trained falcon obviously. What do you mean it would have to earth? how do you think dog shock collars work buddy?
@LegendOfMoonDragons10 жыл бұрын
Perhaps the bird's playing? I know this isn't much of a comparison, but my own birds (obviously significantly smaller and with 0 hunting instinct) enjoy teasing and playing when given a challenge. Perhaps it was being deliberately deterred for the sake of the video, perhaps it was playing, or perhaps it is a little inexperienced and simply missed a few times. Either way, an interesting video to watch. :)

Very cool - the peregrine falcon is perhaps not the best adapted to such a type of hunt - it's fastest in an all out dive (stoop) which breaks a pigeon's neck... interesting to see how much quicker something like a sparrowhawk would take that bait - would suit their MO much better.
