That isn't just the 90s. Non human violence is a really weird thing for ratings. Killing zombies is somehow less violent than killing humans, even if said zombies are human and very graphically zombiefied. Alien monsters dying was generallg acceptable, as is showing their skeletons or organs, since they aren't real they can't be realistic. To quote them, "Most characters burst into a cloud of dust or feathers when defeated; some burst into piles of "cartoony" bones and eyeballs". They're lucky that the princess didn't show up more though, that would have been worse. But yeah, there's a reason it got a 10+ and 12 rating respectively. Though people tend to ignore the 10+ part of E.

Maybe I am just used to the SNES version of the game, but I don't recall the sound quality being so poor. Is that really how the Genesis version sounded? It sounds so.... chippy. Like tinny and crunchy at the same time. I can't say I like it. Though I don't remember a Doc Duodenum boss either, so that's neat. Wonder if the SNES version had things the Genesis version didn't. Did they have that god-awful water maze with the glass bubble elevator too? Or were they spared that nightmare?
