EAS Compilation: Tornado Warnings *UPDATE*

The original tornado warning compilation was just one warning from each year of 2009 to 2021. In this updated compilation, there will be about 2 hours tornado warnings. For fun, I added some EBS tornado warnings at the beginning of this video. Please enjoy this great video and thank you for watching.

0:07 Rare audio of the Attention tone actually used in a EBS alert. When EBS was a thing, that hertz sound u heard was used for the attention of viewers, which is still used to alert people (The first three long tones, or the EOMS tones, are used for the S.A.M.E tech, hence is also why your NOAA Weather Radio goes off at that tone). Most of the time it will play another tone for stations. This will happend from 1963 to December 31st 1996. When the Emergency Alert System was launched on New Years Day 1997, it played the EOMS tones. However, most stations used there own alert systems, but some used EAS. It wasn't until around the early 2000s when EAS was almost everywhere. For example: May 3rd, 1999 was a awful day for Oklahoma City. The station used its own tone, tho it was in 1999.

Of course the F5 tornado that struck Moore, Oklahoma on May 3rd, 1999 brought about the term "Tornado Emergency" because that tornado was headed straight for Oklahoma City. The criteria for the National Weather Service to issue a Tornado Emergency is extremely strict to prevent radio and TV meteorologists from overusing the term; said criteria is as follows: 1.) A large, violent and destructive tornado has been sighted and confirmed by either National Weather Service meteorologists, storm spotters, Doppler radar or law enforcement agencies. 2.) The tornado is moving rapidly towards a densely populated area. 3.) There is a high potential for fatalities and serious injuries; so emergency responders and emergency managers need to get ready. The text of the Tornado Emergency that was broadcast on May 3rd, 1999 was extremely sobering and conveyed the severity of the situation. This is the text of the broadcast: "Tornado Emergency in south Oklahoma City metro area! At 6:57 PM Central Daylight Time; a large tornado was moving along Interstate 44 west of Newcastle. On its present path; this large damaging tornado will enter southwest sections of the Oklahoma City metro area between 7:15 PM and 7:30 PM. Persons in Moore and south Oklahoma City should take immediate tornado precautions! This is an extremely dangerous and life-threatening situation! If you are in the path of this destructive tornado; take cover immediately! Doppler radar indicated this storm may contain destructive hail up to the size of baseballs, or larger."

It’s designed like that so it can remind residents to take cover instead of waiting to see the tornado or just not doin anything to get to safety.

This is due in no small part to the fact that it's extremely difficult if not outright impossible to see a tornado at night and Doppler radar can only do so much. It's why it's highly beneficial to have a NOAA weather radio to help you increase your chance of survival in a nighttime tornado as well as wireless emergency alert notifications on your phone.

It's very unlikely to get Tornado Warnings in my area. I live in Northern California, and we got a Flash Flood warning in January due to heavy rainfalls. We get Flash Flood warnings, Heat Advisory warnings, and sometimes Fires. But I'm glad I don't live anywhere near Tornado Alley.

Last one in the books was in College Point, Queens in 2018 IIRC. There were a couple in Brooklyn in the late 00s/early 10s. A tornado hit my hometown on LI in November 2021. Never thought I'd see that ever happen but thankfully when it went over my town, it went over a baseball field and an area of the town landfill.

While tornados are extremely rare in NYC, than are still rare but more common in its suburbs, i think it was 2010 when a tornado touched down near Hempstead, Long Island while i was visiting family in nearby Roosevelt(i lived in Riverside, CA at the time). Also on my birthday in 2021-22, a tornado touched down in Mastic-Shirley(also on Long Island) damaging store signs and the main intersection.(at that time, i lived in Queens but coincidently was in nearby Patchogue.)

When I was a kid in the early 2000s we had a very active few hurricane seasons down in Florida. I remember seeing the black screen EAS messages the most. We had dozens of tropical storm and tornado advisories especially during Jean. They really freaked me out back then, still freaks me out a bit now but somehow intrigued.

In our state, we don’t get tornados but it’s rare to get one. We do get severe thunderstorms though and once was about to get a hurricane on October 30th 2012 and that was about to be my first Halloween but never got it but the hurricane became a blizzard for us and there was one video that a person drove through my town and showed the snowplowed road! (Yea, it was deep. And I lived next to the road and the snow looked like it was about to touch the road)
