Many custom bike builders face difficulties in starting big displacement V-twin engines using typical Harley setup.
I have an Ultima 127 “ ( 2LITER ) engine.
I use a simple 310 CCA softail style battery from an autostore.
My starting system includes 2kw starter and enormous 2/0 gauge custom cut and crimped cables I made in a marina store)
The engine came with puny manual release valves. They pop out too soon not allowing the momentum to develop due to the compression.
I modified the compression release valves to make them stay open longer thus easing the job of the starting system.
The dipper the holding open groves machined on the plungers, the more difficult to close it.
At time I have to crack the throttle to close the valves.
