Gary took the time on the phone to answer my novice questions and never once got annoyed with me, remained calm & cordial the entire time. He is such an amazingly cool dude... I'm sure I'd love to hang out with you at all good show, or whatever they may be in the future. I hope your business continues to take off because you deserve it, you are so down to earth and care about your customers and your customers well being is that is such a rare trait these days . You deserve everything you might get good and much. I'm going to stop raining bleeding but say once again thank you so much for all your help. You have a customer for life here! Keep cool Dude. Hydroponics is going to be my hobby and keep me out of trouble. Hopefully someday in the future I'll be able to learn enough to turn it into a job because I find it so interesting and I enjoy helping people too. This is the type of job I've been looking for all my life! Not that I know a single thing right now about doing it but I can still learn.

Gary, thank you for the informative videos. Why not spend an extra $2 per line and add a airway check valve? This way you don't need to elevate the pump and in the event of a power outage water can't crawl all the way back to the pump.

great tips on the build 15 min in and i like the tip on the hot water to loosen up the molecular structure of the hosing. one tip i can give is if you use a map gas torch or a butane torch on the burrs helps with rounding off the edges. i even use it after the de-burring tool. have yet had a leak and my system has had seven grows on it.

Watched lots of videos. Watched this one and bought the 6 bucket DWC. Had problem with failures on the leak test. (I'm sure you looked in the grommet method.) After a few stubborn leaks ( I used to worked in manufacturing, assembling and testing gas regulators), I used plumbers white tape on the threads and cleaned any debris on the gaskets. That fixed it. Cold weather with morning temps in the 40's (in MAY!) stalled the growth process. (I live on MD Eastern Shore) Now with warmer temps, they're greening up nice and developing at a DAILY rate. ( I use Advanced Nutrients with the the gorilla.) Advanced Nutrients webpage has a confusing feed schedule. I only need to know how often the change the solution.

I'm really excited to get this I have next week off of work so that should be plenty of time to set it all up and get things moving I got my water sitting all ready to let the chlorine dissipate. You are one amazing dude man! Every time I hear your other store is called all good gives me a chuckle. The next store you open up, if u do, should be called something like Greatful Hydroponics LOL... and if you are considering going with selling on Amazon in the future they got away set up where you can send them all your supplies, or better yet have all your suppliers send them your supplies, and they will take care of shipping them out from there which could prob save you a ton of time because I know your time is limited, greatly Limited. You're probably already aware that Amazon program but I thought I would mention it just in case you were not aware. Congratulations on running a freaking awesome store, being fair and honest with your prices and being more than willing to help out. You are a true Deadhead in the best sense possible! Luv ya Gary! I'm looking forward to doing lots of business with you in the future. I'm trying to convince some of my local friends (Pittsburgh) to come to you for their tomato and other hydroponics supplies instead of buying local, but that's a tough sell because most of them are friends with their local sellers. Although the almighty dollar rules a lot of stuff & not to mention your customer service is top notch! I wish you all the best of luck Gary, not that you need any luck. I am watching videos and learning,you suggest changing water solution every week or two depending on state of crop,if the feed is all dissolved in the water won't the plants uptake a standard feed until reservoir is too low,my thought is a40 gal container of mixture connected to the reservoir via a (what we call) a ball valve(tap) or float valve ,then by regularly checking large drum you would not need to empty the system, a complete novice to hydroponics.
@PAHydroponics4 жыл бұрын
Hey there, you have a good point but I would have to say that plants only uptake what they want and if you keep adding nutes without draining it out there could and most likely will be a build up of something the plant does not want and eventually it can mess your plants up, they like it fresh and have a noticeably better yield with the frequent change outs. I do deal with commercial lettuce growers with 1000's of gallons that never change it out but they have a 5000$ machine that analyzes what is in the water so they can add just what ios needed back in like nitrogen or phos. pot. etc. Hope this helps. If I add 8 more buckets in to this set up will I need a larger reservoir. Would the 75 pump still work for a 12 bucket setup? If not what would you recommend? Also do the lengths of tubing have to be even ? How far away can my reservoir be from the setup? If I have 12 buckets in the room can I put my reservoir outside of the room through a hole in the wall ? Other then that, great video. I planned on building a watering system but this seems more fun.

Hey man, I have not found anything bigger in soft pipe and even the 2 inch bukheads wont work on the round buckets -we tried it, we had to move the holes way up to get to a point that it would flatten out enough and then when we drain it it leaves 3 inches of water, if you find something bigger than 1 inch that works- let us know! Thanks. Gary

Ok now long ago (20 years) I built a system like this before DWC was really well known. I did a 20 gal tote tank instead of the 5 gal bucket, and 5 gal. buckets for each station like this, and like this used a submersible pump, it heated the water up so much in 8 hours that it burnt my plants up, how does this deal with that?

Gary, You are the Man!!! I'm so happy I found you/your store/your videos! Almost spent a lot more for much less and a lower quality system too. This is the system for me! So happy I can order it drilled! Can I order this with a larger reservoir bucket? Like the 8 or 13 Gallon square ones? If so, would there be any drawbacks or problems because of the larger reservoir buckets? I'm thinking those buckets would be a little easier to work with. Also with more water the easier to keep the Ph etc. in line and with less fluctuations cause there's more water--or am I wrong about that? thanks!

Hey Gary, I wanted to thank you for you videos as I managed to assemble your system following them. I would have loved to just buy your system but I live in freaking Argentina and usually things just do not get here. I was able to get almost every component on itself, or similar ones in some cases... like the drainage fittings. Those damn parts were a pain to get and I was only able to get them from china (and paid like 2 euro each). Also, I was not able to get the black flexible tubing that you use to connect the drainage fittings, so I had to use like... rigid 40mm tubing and it seems to work just fine... but it´s not as flexible. Besides sharing my experience with you, I wanted to ask something in particular. I ended up using another system in order to recirculate the water. Instead of connecting the water pump to one of the lower drainage fittings, my pumpo takes water through vertical tubing and then that one is divided on different tubes so each end falls back on top of each bucket. I hope you know what I mean, I can´t attack a photo here. My question is, why did you not do it this way? It also oxygenates the water, and roots don´t tend to got through the tubing so much. It is a bit noisier I guess... but just wondering if you approve my method hehe. Anyways... just thanks you for sharing all of this. Kind regards, Manuel

please correct me if i am wrong or if there is is some disadvantage to my idea that i do not see yet: you would only need 1 passage per bucket if you interconnected the pipes. i think passages are a relatively expensive piece. more expensive then what it takes to interconnect the pipes. maybe the water level will be more even with this method- anyway a important premise is that the ground is even
@Terjeloe5 жыл бұрын
How about having two pumps with alternating timers so it would go 5 min each direction to avoid cloging the pipes? Just connecte a Y on the hoses in the reservoir with bottom of the Y going into the connecting hose so that the water would choose the path with least resistens on the return?
@PAHydroponics5 жыл бұрын

I use a powerful pump, but just use a valve to adjust the water flow. One I got with the kit I bought was weak as hell and couldn’t even empty the system through a hose with it

Do you think steel hose clamps would fine if a barbed connector leaked and/or you wanted to go up to 8 buckets? Thanks for the helpful and insightful videos!
@PAHydroponics5 жыл бұрын
Hello, the barbed fittings usually are not what leaks, it's usually the seal of the bulkhead to the bucket, hose clamps would work just fine on them if you want an extra level of assurance . G

If I make the resevior further away would I need a stronger circulating pump?
@PAHydroponics4 жыл бұрын
Good question and you can have it a lot farther away on this system and it will still work fine, bigger pumps or smaller tubing dont work well and will throw off the water levels in the system. Hope this helps! G

Quick question Gary, will the water still circulate well even if the reservoir is further away than the pre cut hoses? I'm working on putting my system together, and having my reservoir further away would work best. It just seems likes the water wouldn't circulate as well if i double the length of the hose.
@PAHydroponics5 жыл бұрын
You should still be good to go, its still about the same amount of water/pressure in system and should still flow the same. Thanks for watching :) G

How can you tell if your pump is circulating the water correctly? Should you be able to feel the water entering back into the reservoir?
@PAHydroponics5 жыл бұрын
Hello, it is a slow flow system and you should be able to feel the water coming right out of pump easiest, and where it enters back to reservoir you should feel a slight flow but with your hands in the water you might not feel it, maybe stick a finger right in the hole, yikes that sounded bad :) Anyway. Hope this helps! Gary

Instead of a static water level indicator is there a way to add an electric switch/level that activates a fresh water pump to level the nutrient???? Water is the first thing to be used and it would be nice to have an active system to refill the used water during the day. The only thing I would change is the lid/net pots. I would have a 6" hole in the lids and the net pot separate. Two piece. Less damage if you have plants starting to grow in the net pots prior to placing them in the final system. During the dark period does the nutrient pump need to run constantly or just a few times?? Just concerned about heat development in nutrient.
@PAHydroponics5 жыл бұрын
Hey, you could add a reservoir top off kit that runs on gravity, as for the pot lids you can do all kinds of things there. And it is fine to cycle the pump if you would like, it will keep it a little cooler, this pump is small and does not get very hot. Thanks! Gary

Hey Gary, so I'm probably doing things backwards and definitely not in a very intelligent way but I just bought this system from you and it is freaking awesome. I've got it up and running and everything seems to be going just fine. The workmanship on what you sent me is excellent, perfect, & simply flawless!!! its freaking awesome!!! Well I've watching the videos what about the Gorilla grow tents and I guess I fell in love with those, so the question is- will this system fit in a Gorilla 4 X 4 grow tents without any alterations? I'm thinking I might have to put the reservoir outside of the tent & therefore perhaps I may need a longer tube to make that happen, but I'm not sure. I'm sure I'm not the first idiot who has asked this question..... I have a little crappy Greenhouse I was going to set it up in but I think I'm changing my mind about the greenhouse because the Gorilla Grow Tent rocks! I suppose I could just go measure the area the system is taking up and figure it out for myself, huh?
@PAHydroponics3 жыл бұрын
This kit will not fit into a tent without modification. As you stated you will have to make modifications to either the tent or the set up. Most people do not like cutting holes into their tents but there are others who don't mind.
@smilenowcrylater13003 жыл бұрын
Nice video bro bro. Do you have to cut another hole in the tent if you were to keep the resivor outside of the tent? And would you recommend the res being in or out of the tent?

Biggest concern for this type of system is no one ever adds a backup power supply option for areas that have outages often so the plants don't drown. Do you have a solution for this ?

I am looking into a system like this but I don't want to use an air pump I saw some discussions on rollitup forums about not using the air pump but instead using another water pump to aerate the water , the air pumps are not energy efficient and are noisy and also add heat to the water causing risk or root rot , I have heard that if you use a water pump instead it is enough to aerate the water , someone on rollitup forum said they have done DO testing with both an air pump and a water pump and found that the water pump was more than sufficient to aerate the water , not sure what the best way to design a system like that would be though, I have made dutch bucket systems for vegetables with net bag full of pearlite and was thinking of converting one to a DWC with no air pump, with the dutch bucket system though the buckets will be elevated over the reservoir so when the water pours out of the return line (2" PVC pipe) it is also creating aeration, I have that dutch buckets outside though and for in a tent I will not want to elevate the buckets to maximize height inside the tent ,so there will not be any aeration from the water return line , I wonder if you replaced the air pump in this system with a second water pump , put it inside the resovoir bucket and have a 1" PE line with 4 1/4" lines coming off it ,one spraying at the surface level of each bucket if that would be enough aeration , also do you know of anything you can buy to fit at the end of 1/4" tubing ha will make a thinner higher pressure stream so that the water will shoot into the surface water at higher pressure and make more aeration?

Great vids Gary! Watched them all and i ordered this 4 bucket, bare bones rdwc. Ive got 7 gallon buckets that I'm using tho. I only have room 4 3 buckets in my tent. Wat would you use to plug 1 of the outputs on the air pump, since I'm only using 3? I'm going to switch the direction of my circulation every day, to help with any root clogs. Ive also got a timer to turn my pump on and off. You said on 1 min off 5 mins. Would it hurt to only leave it off 4 3 mins? Or just stick to the 1 & 5 mins? Thanks Gary!!!
@PAHydroponics5 жыл бұрын
Hello, good questions, you could put an extra airstone in 1 of the plant sites or use a 1/4 inch tee and connect 2 of the air outputs into 1, the timer will still help it run cooler as long as it's only on for a minute or 2 at a time so it doesnt heat up. Have fun :) and love the 7 gallon size! Gary

Could you use the same pump for a 6 bucket system or would you recommend a slightly bigger one?
@PAHydroponics5 жыл бұрын
Hello, it cant be bigger because it is just 1" tubing and that size tubing cant handle anymore flow or it will get backed up. Hope this helps. Gary

Do you have a tutorial on the pump? Does this hook to one of the pipes to pull water from the res and push to the other buckets creating a undercurrent?

Great system 👍 I'm wondering if maybe you could attach valves on the tubes at the bottom so you could isolate each individual plant, say you have different harvesting times to eliminate one or two entirely so you could flush them with just water and not the others if you have a variety of strains? I'm probably asking too much but I was just curious if there's a way?
@PAHydroponics3 жыл бұрын
That's a cool idea. We do sell a ball valve that could close off the "circuit" so that you could isolate the grow site. shop.pahydroponics.com/hydro-flow-premium-barbed-ball-valve-3-4-in/ There are many ways to set up a garden, thanks for sharing your thoughts.
@MrKhs12343 жыл бұрын
@@PAHydroponics Yeah thanks, I really like scrOG and DWC, unfortunately they are conflicting. You could use the valve to at least drain the bucket and top it back up from the top, it would certainly give you the freedom to grow a verities of strains and more plants👍

Love you videos I especially love the DIY. I have a 3.5' grow cabinet and I am growing out of a dwc coffee container LOL but I spent under $20 I'm am finishing the end of my grow and I've learned allot! I plan on doing an upgrade with res soon and I am planning on using 1 gallon ice cream bucket with an external res (rdwc). Does the external res have to be the same size as the one that has the plant it in?
@PAHydroponics5 жыл бұрын
Good question that we get a lot, everyone needs to think of the whole system as being 1 big reservoir, the extra container with no plant is just a place for you to access and add or check ph and nutes. So it reallyu doesnt matter as to the size of the "reservoir", generally the more water in the system the more stable the PH is and water temps etc. so that may be one thing to consider. Thanks for watching. Gary
