Having to do all this just to replace a $20 guide pulley is utterly ridiculous. Real poor show from VW. Other brands such as BMW you can simply pull the fan assemble out from the top within 2 minutes.

Agreed, no room at all! But, imagine doing this on a VW with the same motor where the motor sits on its side, so you have to pull the motor mounts and half the motor out :) service mode on the Audi is much easier!
