Thanks a million Naptown Tuner. I recently bought a very clean 2011 Audi A4 cheap because it jumped time and bent the valves. After I watched almost everyone of your very helpful videos, I pulled the engine, replaced pistons, rings with new waffle oil rings, timing chains, tensioners, water pump, rear seal, had a valve job done, put it all back together and it fired right up. Passed smog with flying colors and is running great with no codes. I would have never attempted this job without your expert knowledge and instruction and you made it so I was successful in getting it back on the road. Your videos are very entertaining as well as informative. Many thanks and keep up the great work.

Hay , all your videos are awesome! Excellent mechanical advice. I'm sitting with a big issue, I'm busy replacing my 2010 audi A5 2.0 tfsi timming chain. Follow your advice and everything worked perfectly. After the chain was done , I removed the crank bold that I used to turn the engine. And there the bottom gear came loose 💥 bang there goes all my hard work timming out and the new tensioner. I need urgent help, how do I go ahead. Do I need to get a new gear looks like it sits on a little lip how does that gear sit tight on the crank. Please help urgently.

Awesome video on the new guides, chain and tensioner.. I just did a quick look at my Audi B8 2013 with 71k miles and according to my VCDS in UDS mode using Advanced Measuring Blocks and I got these values: Camshaft Adaptation bank 1: -6.90° Camshaft rpm: 381.5 Angle difference actual-specified: -0.063° Camshaft position deviation from reference: 0.02° My question is do you suspect a stretched chain? I haven’t seen any P0016 codes, the engine sounds great, idles great, no vibration, no ticking.. oil is good been using Euro Amsoil VW502.0 do I need to pull the upper cover put it in TDC and do caliper measurements exhaust cam to guide, guide to intake and overall ? If I’m within 60-62mm and 120-123mm do you think I’m ok? Thanks!!! Actually looking for advice from anyone

I'd appreciate some info on a 2010 VW Jetta Wolfsburg edition 2.0t im working on. Herr's the deal, my buddy bought it over a year ago knowing it needed a timing chain. It had the typical cam to crank sensor code. long start time, occasional stall and check engine light. no crazy engine noise, no other problems but did run. Fast forward a year. I now had time to do the chain. I replaced everything timing chain wise and when it started it made an awful noise like it was out of time so my first though was, I bent the valves even though I triple checked ALL methods of timing. well, it was the phaser pin not locking in so when it started the unlooked phaser pin was allowing the cam to flop around in the phaser housing. what's crazy is it didn't do this when I drove it into the shop? I did borescope inside each cylinder and there's NO sign of piston to valve markings. should I install a new cam and let it ride or could I be missing something?

When I put the cam chain in time does the lower chain need to be in time as well as you described? I had to remove the cam cover to replace a broken spring but lost tension on my bungy cord making the chain fall off the lower gear. I plan on removing the dip stick tube to use a camara to put the chain back on its marks. But I don't want to remkve the bottom timing chain cover off. Any advice.

I have a 2018 (b9) Audi A5 2.0l TFSI (approx 25k miles on the clock). Would I need to look out for the rocker arms, timing chain tensioners and guides failing early too? I only drive 3k miles a year, don't drive it like a sports car etc. The engine is a bit rattly when it starts up from cold, then is quiet once warmed up and drives/runs smoothly

I have a question I have a 2012 q5. It has mid fires in cylinders 1, 2, and 3. The codes that came back are p0300-p0303 along with p0506. I am trying to make sure everything gets addressed. I have seen numerous issues from timing chain to the piston rings breaking off. All the code came up at the same time so I think it’s the timing chain. It’s at the shop but I am trying to educate myself so I can speak intelligently to the repair shop. Anything you can offer helps

On the old style tensioner, even if the safety paw quits, there is still a spring that is pushing out the barrel. So it shouldn't release the tension immediatly.

I need your help!! On my 2015 q5 2.0, I had a chain rail on the intake side broke in half. Now I have the chain off and the cams pulled. When I turn the motor over at the crank, it stops DEAD after about 180 degrees of travel. The lobes and journals all look fine. There are shavings missing from some areas of the block due to the chain slapping around. It did not do this for long, I realized something wasn't right in the driveway. All of the valves appear to be up and closed judging from the top of the head. What could be jamming the crank up? Do I need to pull the head? I'm all ears! I need this car running.

Hey Everyone I need some advice. I have a 2019 A4 bought it 2nd hand last year with 53K clicks on the engine. A few weeks ago the engine light came coming up with message start/stop malfunction. I brought the car to Audi and they say its the timing chain that needs to be replaced. My question is…..is it normal on a 5 year old car with now 62K kilometres on the engine that the timing chain needs replacement?? I read online this kind of stuff happens around 10 years or 90-100K. I had a VW golf for 10 years and more KM on the engine and I didn’t have this issue with it

Im currently doing the timing chains on a 2010 Passat CC with p0016 with the common failure tensioner. I ran into a weird issue. I have put the vehicle on TDC with crank pulley at the 4oclock mark shown by the timing cover. Have also verified cylinder 1 is in the up position. My issue is that both my exhaust and intake cams are not where they should be. Both are at the 1 o’clock position. They do not measure the 65mm and 125mm overall as specified by VW. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Love your channel man!

Hey Naptown, I replaced all timing components, everything except the oil pump chain, my ‘13 A4 runs great no issues, the measurements were dead on at TDC from center of the bridge to the intake cam mark (62.3mm) and total was 125.3mm. It’s been about 500 miles since I did this but I heard that you’re supposed to reset the Adaptation value in VCDS do you know how that is done? Is it too late now to do this? My current value is -1.5° which seems somewhat off with brand new chain and tensioner OEM parts. Anyone know about resetting that cam/crank correlation after a timing chain?
