Honestly, I didn't actually like this move when I first learned it (a long time ago!) because it was really difficult for me to keep the motion parallel to the floor. Besides learning the correct technique, I discovered that I also simply needed to practice the move a lot so that my body learned to feel comfortable in what really actually felt very awkward! 🤪 Also, what helps gain range of motion (that is, to be able to push those hips out further) is to loosen up the muscles between our ribs and our hips-try pinching and massaging them, then stretching, then do the move again.
