Welcome New Dancers! 😊 If the posture feels awkward, you're probably on the right track. It DOES take lots of practice to build the muscle memory and strength to hold the pose. But, it's easier to do while MOVING, so try the Belly Dance Sway now. bit.ly/JBDSway To practice your posture with just 3 belly dance moves, do this video: bit.ly/JBDBeginAtHome

I am starting with the posture...and i can really feel it in my legs. Is that normal, or am i doing something wrong? By the way, I'm a late starter lol, I'm 54 years young. Hopefully, with much practice, I will be able to at least learn basic moves. Thank you for the lessons!

Welcome to Jensuya Belly Dance, @Ayesha Figueroa! ❤️ You are at the perfect age to start belly dancing-you'll enjoy this video, I think, in regards to the perfect age to start: bit.ly/JBDLateStart Yes, if you are feeling it in your legs (and everywhere else, in fact), you are doing it right. My best suggestion is to practice the posture in very short sessions throughout the day and stretch often. Here's another video that will give you more pointers on posture: bit.ly/JBDMistake So happy to have you join the beautiful world of belly dance! And here's another playlist you'll find helpful. bit.ly/JBDNewToBDStartHere Wonderful to be in touch. ❤️

Do you keep holding your upper back through out the dance? Or just at the moment of the posture?
@SamCoff-f9d10 ай бұрын
I am pretty sure you keep it that way

I am loving all your videos! Question...i have taken many classes in I guess western dance lol...for example ballroom, school dance teams, gymnastics and even baton lessons. (I'm telling my age a little there) anyway most all if those positions your bottim is more curved back...like back of hip circle. Anyway, any suggestions on correcting this posture in belly dance? I know it is bad for your back not to be tucked...but every time I stop a move it looks like I'm stuck in a back pop.

@Amanda Thompson, I think I understand your question, but describe it for me again...

@@JensuyaBellyDance ok..in basic hip posture...it always seems like my butt is out, lower back bent pushing butt out...like gymnast...not as much as that but so you can get what's happening. I am in starting posture, have to remind to tuck hips under...so, my butt sticks out when it shouldn't...thought you might have a tip to keep that lower belly dance posture instead of looking like gymnast.

@@JensuyaBellyDance sorry, in west texas where I am hours from nearest class. I'm assuming it will just happen with more practice and just keeping my mind on my posture 24/7. Thanks for all your videos.

@@amandatwisener try this: stand in front of a mirror so that you are in profile: you are sideways to the mirror. Then go into the basic belly dance posture as I describe in the video; then as you are watching yourself, see if you could draw a straight line along your side from your knees to your head; in other words, you don't want a "z" shape. It should be a very intense posture to hold...you'll get used to it! Another way to think of it: tuck your pelvis forward with your lower abs while keeping your knees bent AND lifting your rib cage-think of the bottom of your ribs so you can keep your shoulders relaxed. You do NOT want them tense and pulled up towards your ears. Work on the posture in very short sessions (just a few minutes) several times a day. You'll be getting a fabulous core workout. Be sure to stretch in the opposite direction afterwards. (Do you do yoga or other stretching exercises?)

@@amandatwisener you are so welcome! Yes, any time you think of it, practice your posture; even when sitting. Abs in and up, rib cage gently lifted, shoulders relaxed. You go, Girl!! ❤️
