Some of the creepers were dying from fall damage, so what I did was raise the trident killer and collection system up 1 block. That ensured that I will get the looting effect on all of the creepers that landed in the killer. I also used an inward facing door instead of the fences - you can still pick up xp through them.

Excellent build! I'll add a little bit that I don't see very many people taking advantage of in farms these days. Mud Blocks are a bit smaller than all of the other building blocks pixel-wise, so if you use mud as the floor, you can pull items directly through them using hoppers, eliminating the need for minecart hoppers + rails, etc.!

It works great for me. Just keep in mind, if you didn’t pick up on it like I did not, if you are doing multiple layers to place the trapdoors on the bottom of each layer. Note you don’t have to do the bottom layer above the water.

@@boosts4793 are you holding a looting 3 sword while it’s running? And did you place trapdoors under each layer like you would with the ceiling? If you didn’t you would get other mobs that spawn other than just creepers

I can confirm this farm works. I'd highly recommend building this high above an ocean though instead of on land. The farm works faster if fewer mobs are spawning in the vicinity. I made the mistake of putting the bottom of my farm on the top of the ocean so I'm only making 2 stacks of gunpowder an hour with two layers versus the aforementioned 4 stacks an hour with 2 layers.

hey, the farm is slightly working but now how it was intended . so i have everything built the exact same as shown in the video but not a lot of creepers are spawning, and skeletons along with spiders and witches spawn. is there any fix for that. i was thinking about adding more floors but not if its going to be spawning other mobs ----- ok edit : im pretty sure i fixed the spawning of other mobs and now im adding more layers to try and improve the rates of creeper spawns.

At 9:30 I think you made a mistake. Instead of saying that you'd need trap doors over every "empty" space, it should be every other space but the empty ones which is what it looks like in the video. Is that correct?

Complaining about vicinity just turn down the amount of chunks you want and build it ontop of a mountain. If you want it closer to your base.

I'm sure you don't have to go higher than the farm itself to go afk. Do an experiment to see if being higher or lower than the farm is better

So I built this, went afk and came back to see that I had died because a creeper must've seen through the fence and blown up. It was working great at first, did 5 layers, afk'd for an hour and checked and I did have ~10 stacks of gunpowder. But not being able to actually afk safely is a massive issue. I just lost my full netherite god armor and max enchanted netherite tools to this. So just be warned, you might want to find a different solution for the kill chamber/xp collection, because apparently a creeper can land right next to the fence posts, not get killed by the trident killer, and blow up everything after it sees you.

Cats! I nearly died while AFKing as well, and added cats to either side of the collection zone about 4 blocks away. The creepers not only stay away from you, but they also clamber in the middle where the trident shreds them up.

I was thinking about this when I saw the fence post but tbh I'd say don't worry about the xp at all there are other farms you can use for that but if you realllllll need it you could put a single slab on a top half of a block instead of a full block and they MIGHT die before they have time to detonate but it could vary in how far they fell in yours and if they are 1 shot as soon as the fall

At least 4 chunks to make sure that both farms aren't taking up the mob cap. This is assuming that your sim distance is set to 4 chunks already.

You have to be enough blocks away from land and caves so mobs dont spawn or you could use torches about the y level i dont know

Yeah I'm not happy about it & haven't found a way to stop it. Maybe a glitch with the new update? It seems to be breaking the game at every turn. From mob spawns to movement, water behaviour & oath finding. So I wouldn't be surprised if it is to do with the update breaking the farm

I’d love to do these farms, but the trident with the pistons never works no matter the world I’m on. It’ll stick to a piston but once it activates it just falls down and doesn’t move with the pistons. Have never been able to fix it

You could probably do camp fires but you wouldn't get exp. And the looting 3 effect wouldn't work.

Yeah that's not far enough up. You probably have a ton of fish spawning that are taking up too much of the mob cap for the realm/world

I just spent all night on this farm….. I tried another one before this and it wasn’t working. So I made this farm I put 4 layers in it and it wasn’t working I looked all over to see why and I gave up tbh. But I kept thinking why NOTHINg was spawning so I looked around my base. I’m on a friends realm and I have a little island and all my friends are about 150 blocks away from me so I went and tourched out all my tunnels and I went back to see if it was working. And it was still busted so I found out that if u have a lot of farm animals or villagers it will not choose to spawn anymore mobs or prioritize it ig from what I can tell as soon as I settled my cattle depts came back and there where three creepers. As the span of me typing this I got 40 gp☺️ thank you I hope my comment helps someone else

trident killer acts as killed by player and drops exp and loot, looting increases the drops and rate of drops in player-mob kills. hence just holding the looting 3 sword increases the loot.

Where did you build it? That's important.. If you build it on land, you need to make sure that you build it like 40 blocks up to avoid things spawning in caves below that are dark, and random cows and such on the land all around - that will take up the mob capacity and will limit your production of creepers

No one might've told you this but mobs cannot fit under trapdoors, only creepers so when you add only trapdoors, the game thinks "Oh there is trapdoors, so lets add creepers because their hitbox is smaller than any other mobs". But for buttons, I'm not sure about it

if I add more layers, wouldn't the creepers die to fall damage rather than the trident? does that give loot?

The creepers don’t damage when falling off the trap doors into water

The trident killer is so looting 3 works. If you hold a looting 3 sword, it applies to the trident. So if you made them die to fall damage, you would still get gunpowder, but not as much.

@@yeah.7426 you could add cobwebs at the top before the creepers fall. Or you can bring the trident killer up a few blocks. The cobwebs might make it a little slower but it would fix your problem.

No it does not use durability and you can hold out a looting sword for looting effects
