You just saved me a world of hurt....I was getting ready to go through the passenger side via a small grommet opening behind my side vent. The work space is incredibly tight and finding the wire inside the truck after pushing it through was impossible. I was going to buy a fish wire tomorrow but now....easy peasy..Thank you.

Couple years late on this but Ford has you covered already on this. Above the factory wiring harness you see the small nipple on the grommet, if you cut that off its meant for this exact purpose. When your done seal it with RTV silicone. There is another one on the passanger side as well. Look up the F150 upfitters guide for more details becuase the F150 is common in Fire, EMS, PD, DPW etc they are built with features like that and luckily the information is available.

be aware that particular fuse block your using leaks power. if you pull a fuse to work on anything connected to it, verify that circuit is completely dead of power with a volt meter. i have 2 of them and i had to open them up and cut out all the jumpers to the LED lights to make the fuse block was safe and would function as intended. my fancy LED lights wont work anymore but it wont burn the truck down either. great video!

Very nicely done and very clean! I anticipate doing the same to my F150. Great links you provided for the circuit breaker & fuse block. I've used the large audio fuse holders on my previous installs, but the circuit breaker is cheaper and eliminates issues with purchasing fuses of the proper amperage if you blow one. I was surprised to see you use home wiring for your install. Never really considered using it, as I figured it would be too stiff to run in a vehicle. I need the 6 or 8 gauge for my HF install.

So much better than Chevy. I tried routing a wire in a 22 Silverado -- they give you a little nipple for upfitting but the center rubber is too thick and you can't get a screwdriver in there straight. Popped the grommet and nylon keepers out, took nearly 4 hours to reinstall because of the location and how the nylon pieces interlock to each other.
@ltbarkley4 жыл бұрын
Very clean install! I took inspiration from this and will likely copy the install. I need to run power for a 2m and I like the idea of running accessory wires at the same time. You can get the overhead raptor console on eBay to get the factory “up fitter” switches - I’m sure you would have no problem running them through a relay for your accessory wires.

I really liked this video. I plan to copy you for the most part since I have a 2016 F150; from the video, it looks like we have the same architecture under the dash. I am wiring up my 2m/440 radio and will run two extra lines for future off-road lights and an emergency beacon. I have a few questions: What shape is the bracket you made to support power distribution block? How and where did you mount it? And lastly, how did you mount the power distribution block to it (nut and bolt or self tapping screws)? Any other advice on that would be helpful.
@dutchofsc5 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear it. I used a metal square that I had in the garage, the type you would buy from lowes, cut the ends to length, drilled holes that aligned with the holes in the body, used a slightly larger nut on the back of newly made bracket to space out the mount. I used two nuts and bolts to secure the power block to the frame. Let me know if this helps, I can make a quick video of any specific issues. Just reach out here, and thanks for watching

There is a grommet on the other side of the brake booster on mine. There's nothing through it right now and I've ran a test wire into the cab through the hole. Would there be an disadvantage of stamping a 1/2" hole in the grommet and using this hole?
@dutchofsc3 жыл бұрын
I think I know what you are talking about, and I was going to use that first, but this turned out to be easier for me, especially since I have so many wires going through there now. I think your way will work great too!

@@dutchofsc - I actually found a beefier grommet for the 2" hole that had graduated steps that allowed me to cut for a perfect fit with the 1/2" loom. You are right - between that and the wire channels in rocker panels, these trucks were meant for stereos.

Great video. Thanks. Dumb question: Your power wire and your pass thru wires are loomed. Did you pull these wires through the large grommet in the firewall with the loom on or did you simply loom the wires on each side of the grommet? It’s a pretty tight grommet so I was wondering how you it a loomed wire thru it. Thanks.

Great video, quick and dumb question you use 6 gauge red wire from + battery to + fuse box. Are you using 6 gauge black wire from - battery to - fuse box? Or 6 gauge black just from the inside of cab ground to - fuse box and ground? Hope that made since. Thanks for your time.

Good question. I'm using the same 6awg wire from the grounding point to the fuse block, except the wire is wrapped in black shrink wrap.
