This may work for some wallpapers, but other stubborn wallpapers have become one with the wall over 30-40 years will require more than just hot water.. ADDING FABRIC SOFTENER will help dissolve the binders in the glue and it will come off as you scrape the paper away.. If there is still residual adhesive, respray it and scrape it again.. If it doesn't come off the second time, let the wall dry completely and sand it with 120 grit sandpaper and then PUTTY, PRIME, SAND and clean the wall before painting the color coat.. THEN, it will look like a professional paint job ! Add approximately 25% fabric softener and 75% water in your sprayer. The cheap stuff at Dollar General will do !

I sometimes do have to use a chemical remover if hotwater and softener don't work. Its funny that what works for one paper doesn't work for another. I used Diff (spelling?) in one room successfully and it wouldn't cut the glue in the other room at all. But another brand did. I am a professional and try to avoid removal but get stuck with it sometimes. Good luck to all of you. You just have to try everything! Sometimes nothing will take it off!

I dreaded removing 11 year old twice layered wallpaper!!! This is brilliant!!! I followed the advice but added fabric softener and vinegar to the water. I used regular spray bottle and it worked! I found it's easier to scrape the paste off the wall with that mixture. I like that it's such a simple procedure and you have the things at home already. No need to buy expensive wallpaper remover stuff. Thank you! Thank you!

So many videos out there on the same topic and each has it's own technique! Yours cost nothing!!! No scrapers, no DIF to buy, etc, etc! Am doing my two bathrooms.......have pondered over this for some time. Pulled the paper off like you demonstrate.....had some small pieces to go back to, no big deal......then I used the hot water on the backing.....I could see it bubble up! Started at the corner and began to peel it off. Didn;t get the large pieces that you did....maybe need to let soak longer....BUT..the backing did come off very easily, with the help of a scraper. Within 30 minutes of watching your video, I had two lengths of paper (ceiling to floor) totally removed!!!!! Going after the rest of it. Thank you and Thanks, KZbin.

Thank you so much for making this video! Two days ago I started removing wallpaper in my bedroom, and first day was terrible. Yesterday i went to google to look for tips on the internet and found your video. That spray bottle saved me hours of work. I sprayed more than one time because there were couple of layers from previous tenants, and waited for couple of minutes each time. Everything was coming down smoothly and almost no little pieces left on the wall. It really worked like magic and saved me lots of time scraping those little annoying pieces and a definite muscle ache in my arms! Thank you! It worked really really well!

This worked great! It took awhile and the bathroom was really wet by the time i finished, but both the wallpaper and the glue layer came off well. One little thing i did additionally, was that when the paper split as i peeled it off, i immediately misted the part that wasn't coming off, then worked it back down to join the main part. Because there was no stickiness when it was dry after removing the glue layer, i painted directly over it with a latex paint, and it looks good. Or at least a LOT better than before i started! Thanks for the video - this was by far the easiest way shown, and it worked.

Okay, so I watched this video and I said to myself that there is no way this is going to to work. As my 23 year old wallpaper started peeling, my kids decided it would be fun to see what would kind of random patterns they could make on the wall by pulling it upward. The result, I couldn't take it any more and just started peeling off the top layer as in this video. Having nothing to lose I grabbed my 2 gallon pump sprayer (I usually use this for weed kill), rinsed it out, filled it up with hot water and started spraying. At first it didn't go so smoothly so I decided to let the water permeate for about three to four minutes and then put another misting on top, and sure enough, the wall paper came right off just like in this video.. This is an awesome technique and I want to thank you for sharing it with us!!!
@TheRykerDane10 жыл бұрын
You are very welcome and I am so glad it worked for you. I must say you had it easy doing it this way first. Please share with your friends on Facebook or wherever if you think it would help them too. thanks so much!

This works great as long as you didn't put glue on the back of the wallpaper when you put it up. If you do, this won't work but if all you did was dip the wallpaper in hot water and just use the pre- pasted type of wallpaper, this works like a charm.

Yes this is the worst when it is on unprimed walls. It is a slow job to remove it all. It's either that or to mud over whats left and smooth out with sanding. You just may have to do this a few times to get everything leveled out. It just depends on how much time you want to spend on it. Hope that helps!

I would caution viewers to be careful of over wetting as it might cause the paper sheeting on improperly primed or sealed sheetrock to bubble. To combat this possibility, I would add wallpaper glue dissolving solution to the water to increase it's effectiveness and thereby reducing the amount of water needed. In addition, it is useful for removing the stickiness mentioned in this video and thereby negating the need for oil based primer as was suggested. This solution is particularly useful if you don't have peelable wallpaper as was in this demonstration. Just remember that you will also need the device that puts pinholes in your wallpaper as a entry point for the solution. This too is available at most big box hardware stores such as Lowes.

I have one problem though now that I have set the wheels in motion. I can't get it off in one smooth piece but need to use my scraper (even after waiting longer). But the scraper dug into a deeper level of the wall past the grout which had once upon a time covered some old wallpaper that someone else painted over after grouting. Ive got a wall which I scraped into a mess whilst other walls in the same room are smooth but waiting to be steamed off as per your video. What's the best way to level out tge wall Ive wrecked? Im doing it myself too.
@TLOYA19 жыл бұрын
+Cam Lar his method works great with smooth surfaces under the wall paper especially if it's primed or skim coated. but doesn't always work great when the walls are textured. sometimes you do need to rent a steamer. stay away from tiger claws. they just make things more difficult.

Thanks! Worked like a charm. What a relief after reading through some of the long, drawn out, labour-intensive options out there.

What a great tip video. I was removing a border at the ceiling line and the water loosened it a lot, but not completely. I used a 4" or 5" plastic putty knife and it took it off very well. Thank you very, very much.

We have a hotel that needs this done to 160 rooms...They wanted $1500 a room to strip the paper off. Guess I'm gonna put my boots on and get busy. You have just saved me so much money. Thanks Mister !!!!

Thanks for posting this!! Removing wallpaper can be an intimidating project but your method made it so easy. We sprayed the walls with hot water and it came off just like butter!!!! Amazing!

I've just spent about an hour plus doing a single wall of a small bedroom using a little stripping steamer. I knew there must be a faster way! Thanks for uploading.

Marie Louise Finch well if it is an older home then it might be easier to take off. old wallpaper comes down really easy

Really good tip thanks. I used to mix wallpaper glue with some water and roll it on the old wallpaper to soak it but it's a bit messy. Like this way better.

looks great, nice demo. I think that was a vinyl wallpaper, I have a thin fabric like paper that nothing is working on...but your oil base primer tip was appreciated.
@TheRykerDane10 жыл бұрын
Pamela Damhorst You are welcome. If the paper is really thin and won't come off, then just prime over it, mud the seams and then put your paint coat over it. you will never know there was wallpaper there.
