So nice, thanks. I will definitely try it for my horde base. I was thinking about slowing zombies with diagonal 1/2 blocks, and regulate traffic with an horizontal door. But it looks like diagonal 1/2 blocks + this new 4ways pole could do the trick and remove the annoyance of managing the door. And I'm tired of scaffolding ladder as fighting position. Very good design and editing, as usual.

@@pseudoposse I think you found it.I just tested a horde night 7, works great with a knife build. There's only Arlene who is too short, so bodyshot for her. I used half blocks rather than catwalk plates. Even with that I hit the block sometimes. And the best, imo, the robotic sledge works through this block most of the time. Which is huge. It can be placed on your feet with you on the fighting position. Or a few blocks away on the side of the corridor. With a hole on the other side for zombies extraction :)
@pseudoposse

@@OuabiGaming That is awesome to hear that the robotic sledge turret can work through the hole! The 1/2 block is definitely nicer for hitting though in my testing, it does open you up for some occasional cop puke that can hit you. Some spit will get blocked but some won't so be careful ;)

This build can definitely be one of the best in a horde base and I've built one. The problem is that you can't headshot zombie Arlene with melee attacks, but other short zombies can.
@pseudoposse
@pseudoposse 17 күн бұрын
Arlene is a bit tricky, but sill doable. And in later hordes once zombies start to pile on top of each other, they tend to conveniently poke their heads out of the top pole hole making it easy to whack them in the head.

Really awesome base! It must be noted that the "low tech" option for blocking the zombies crawling through the blocks is not available to be added to the base you built in the video. Kudos to you sir for bringing up this point! You could go with the low tech option with a redesign ;) The hi-tech option required less work for sure which is why I went with it. Definitely an interesting build, and I love the new defence block (the base reminds me of steampunk/circus, theme park rides). Also, with regards to the early game iteration, how would you prevent the zombies going into rage mode? Surely they'd beat on the fighting position? I noticed a few of them getting on top of the pathway and going into that digging animation. Would that block also work for bats/clubs? That's my specialty :D
@pseudoposse
@pseudoposse 16 күн бұрын
This will definitely work for bats and clubs :) As for the rage mode. Early game hordes aren't too threatening to topple a base from rage. But if you do want to prevent it, you can build the dropper higher above the ground. I made that early base minimalist but you can easily make the path wall a bit higher to prevent zombies from getting on top. And you can make the path higher to deal with raging zombies. You can initially cut costs on the base if you build higher by making the stairs more narrow and making the fighting platform very simple. And then add on as you go :)

Man, I don't know what I did wrong as what I built, at least stair and corridor-wise looks just like in the video, but it just went really bad. I was hyped to find a good base to carry me through the first few horde nights, but I think this is just not it for me. None of the zombies fell, despite them piling up. Moreover, when one would ragdoll after me boinking it, when it was getting back up, it would get pushed by the mob through the hole in the 4 pole arrangement and into the same space as me. It was impossible to keep up with the constant zombie waves (they changed it, didn't they? It used to be easy first night) or with the repairs. They finally broke the barrier after only 1 hour and a half. Spent the rest of the night running in a straight line and knifing them one by one... it was a painfully long 4 in-game hours... I play on adventurer mode, for anyone curious, with sprint during bloodmoon so nothing crazy :/
@pseudoposse
@pseudoposse 8 күн бұрын
Sorry you had difficulties! That's odd that none of the zombies feel through the holes in your horde. During testing, that happened consistently. As for zombies squeezing through, did you use the half length pillar 0.5m shape? That should prevent all squeezing.

It depends on what your objective is. Adding an obstacle course on the stairs would slow the rate in which they loop so if you are worried about getting overwhelmed, or your base is made of weak materials and you need to buy some more time, that would work.

Is the idea to have a sperate base for fighting hordes? Or where do all of your workbench and storage go? Underground?
@pseudoposse
@pseudoposse 13 күн бұрын
I generally make my "home" base and horde base separately. But if you wanted to attach this base to your crafting/storage area, you certainly could. Either make the fighting position larger to house your stuff with some additional protection for that in case they break through. Or dig beneath the fighting position for an underground base. Just be cautious about creating a complete path from underground to your fighting position as zombies will then tunnel down and go up.

The main problem I had is that all zombies are not the same height. Taller zombies were easy to hit and no problem. Get some of the shorter female zombies and their head is literally right behind the 4-way pole and difficult to hit. I basically had to crouch and hit their body instead. If the zombies make it through the drop section I think a catwalk block to raise the zombies on their side would fix that height issue and not cause a Cop spit issue.
@pseudoposse
@pseudoposse 14 күн бұрын
I've thought about raising or lowering the other side of the 4 way pole which as you said, would make zombies easy to hit and not have the cop issue. I think it depends on how you construct your path, with some designs, placing a catwalk or like a 3/4 cube might mess up the path design you've chosen. Definitely placing it inside or outside is a viable strategy. Thanks for bringing up a good point!

@pseudoposse
@pseudoposse 14 күн бұрын
@@idiocide6609 Sorry to hear you had troubles! For the zombies squeezing through, if you don't have access to the fence posts, use the half length pillar 0.5 m shape I mentioned in the video. That will prevent all squeezing. As for difficulty hitting, you have some options. You could catwalk or thicker to raise yourself on your side, or you can conversely sacrifice a single row of the pole 4 way right in front where zombies collect and put in like a cube 1/2 or so to lower zombies to make them easier to hit. Lastly, you could replace, the pole 4 way barricade with scaffolds if that is easier. As for zombies dropping, when there are not many zombies, they do fall a bit less frequently. It is more effective later hordes when you have a large collection in there. Then they drop very frequently as shown in the video. Hope that helps!

How would you modify this to accommodate for parties? Like a full party of 8?
@pseudoposse
@pseudoposse 9 күн бұрын
You could do a couple things. First, add additional corridors of the same design so there are multiple to cover. Another thing you could modify is the end of the corridor by making it wider to allow more people to engage the zombies. You could use the same pole blocks along the path. Another idea would be to use a single corridor and then split off multiple paths from it for others to cover.

do you thinking building this base in the water would cause any pathing problems with zombies ??
@pseudoposse

Nope! In fact, it could actually help as water will slow down zombies making them take longer to do the loop. And it also serves as an anti rage mechanic so you could build the path at a lower height in water versus land. Just be sure the stairs extends all the way to the bottom of the water.

I'd have to test out how effective it is being wider. Zombies might be less likely to fall through. But another option is to create multiple corridors of the same size with the 2 wide pole 4 way. So if you have 2 people, put in 2 corridors that each of you can cover.

@@flax6899 For a second horde (day 14 by default), that is pretty high levels. In your game settings are you using an xp multiplier? If so, you may consider putting that down to 100%(default) which should make the difficulty progression slower. The danger of leveling too fast is while your skills get better, you may not have had the time to properly loot gear reflective of your level whereas the zombies are more difficult. But since you are already at those levels, short of starting over, try to prioritize getting better gear and dedicate a person or two to making a horde base that works well. We've got plenty of options on the channel that you could try out. And if you are still using cobblestone at that gamestage, that is probably another reason life is harder. @@pseudoposse We'll see. Realistically, the cop puke "should" get though an open space. And a spear "should" only be useful though open spaces. TFP are known to over correct zombie AI for people making cheese bases. But, since they are now 1.0, I can see them being done with that stoopid crap. Lastly, it's a game so, have fhun!

The new shape isn't really better than the existing ones. You can always use the L version in the same way with the same zombie glitch-through problem and the same opening size for throwing and melee. The actual advancement is offsetting the floor to better align the player character with the openings for easy use with anything which isn't a spear. Was still an entertaining video to watch though.

It isn't necessarily better, just another alternative to mix things up :)

I'm not sure the zombies making it through the gap is a bug. Ever since 1.0 dropped, I've noticed they now seem to be able to crawl through partially destroyed doors now if they pile up just a small amount. Something I've *never* seen them do before. Has me wondering if TFP changed how they interact with those types of openings....
@pseudoposse
@pseudoposse 16 күн бұрын
That is certainly possible. But you'd think they'd be able to do it when not squeezed if it were completely intended. But I think I vaguely recall something a dev mentioned somewhere about changing how zombies move through
@starfuryms582
@starfuryms582 16 күн бұрын
@@pseudoposse it looked like it was more a case of they needed to be on top of another zombie to reach the right height to crawl through the gap (once it was big enough). But when there are 2 or more zombies on the other side of a door, I've found it somewhat consistent. If I knock one down, there's a decent chance the other will walk on top of it, and crawl through the door, rather than bashing on it. Obv this only happens with the *big* hole in the doors, lol.
@pseudoposse
@pseudoposse 16 күн бұрын
@@starfuryms582 That could be the explanation. They do tend to crawl when piled on top of each other so they may need to be in that state in order to get through. But it definitely isn't easy for them as not all crawling zombies cannot pass through with any consistency. At least the half length pillar blocks plug up enough of the hole to prevent it.

You can filter by category on the side. And also you can type in the text filter to look for a block. If you press "s" on a block, it will save it in your favorites so you can easily find blocks you like to use in the future.

I’m a new player, how far can this base take me? I keep finding good bases to build but finding out they don’t make it pass day 49
@pseudoposse
@pseudoposse 16 күн бұрын
It really depends. Some bases will scale better than others. As a general rule once you get to lategame, you want at very least concrete with some steel for the important parts. For this particular base design, I did the lategame horde on day 70, insane/nightmare so it should hold up. Another thing to consider in this particular example is the early game base I showed (the smaller of the two bases featured in the video) would probably fail at high gamestages even with concrete as it sets too low to the ground. Falling zombies will accumulate too rapidly and they'll get caught underneath and start beating on the path. So sometimes it is better to make things a bit higher from the beginning so it can eventually handle later hordes. When I play, I am always thinking about future hordes. Either I'll make a temporary horde base that doesn't require a lot of upkeep for the early hordes while I build a more long term design. Or I'll build something that I can later expand upon as I progress. This design will work for all stages of the game but make sure the path is built high enough for the lategame. Make it at least ll blocks from the ground. You could easily build that high for a first horde and keep the design very simplistic (one block wide staircase instead of 3 or more). And as you progress, beef it up. Hope I didn't overload you with too much information. But good luck!

3 of us played on navezgane map. I built an appartment with a garage on the 1st floor. Entering the yard and the garage is through a bridge. I dug a moat around 3 blocks wide and filled it with water. Added poles on the sides of the moat in front of the appartment so all zombies fall into a moat, and climb back using ladders. Horde nights were getting boring shooting them from our defensive towers inside the territory. I would sometimes jump outside for fun into the fray. day 49 and any other is a joke with such a base - just make sure you have enough bullets xD

I tried this one and I gotta say I did not like it. I hope it works better for everyone else, but for me, trying to aim melee weapons between these bars is too hard. Half the time I was hitting the blocks instead of the zombies, several zombies are too short to headshot through these bars, and I had so many cops explode that my base was in tatters at the end of the horde night. I did make it through without dying but it was close and it was only the first horde night. Back to the drawing board for me. The actual walkway using these bars worked great, zombies falling a lot, it was really useful. But the part where my fighting platform is I gotta do something else.
@pseudoposse
@pseudoposse 15 күн бұрын
Sorry to hear it didn't work for you! When zombies pile on top of each other which they tend to do with this setup, they actually poke their heads through the holes for easy hits. When there is a single zombie or two, it can be a bit tricky to hit some of the shorter ones. You could either replace the poles with scaffold ladder. Or you could try raising/lowering your platform to make hitting single zombies easier. Good luck 😊
