Drafting a bodice and arm pattern is difficult, if you lack knowledge of how important it is to take correct measurements at certain points of the body and drafting the measurements correctly onto the pattern. There are some standards measurements that work great for a baseline. Neck hole and shoulder slopes. NH 3/4 “x 3” for the back, 3” x 3” for the front. Rounded neckline. Shoulder slope. 2” is the average, slope. Great video. It definitely gave a great beginning of understanding the pattering and measurements involved. Have you made a video about drafting a sleeve ? I just came across your channel. I’m trying to construct an old fashioned barn coat. I’ve drafted many patterns for shirts, pull overs, shorts and pants. However, I’m sure about the amount of ease. Thank you for sharing, keep up the great work. Best regards !

A question - how do you account for the height difference in the back piece? Usually the back has an added yoke. If not a yoke, they add a 2 inches in height to the front piece. I'm confused.

@@BeauWilder I don't, but in trying to make a block or sloper I tried to use the process designed for women. It doesn't really work as men are, as you say, "meat slabs." I had to restart from the front block because all my vertical mark measurements are from the front, and the sleeves aren't mirror images of eachother.

Oooh amazing challenge... So for your stretch material... You'll want to make a few decisions, how tight do you want it to be on the body and how much give is there in the fabric. I havent made any videos about measuring the body but it is super important. The only advise I can give you that will help you on your way is to create a block with TAKEN measurements and not CONSTRUCTION measurements. More stretch, less ease

Best mens bodice drafting I've seen so far. Is the arm curve for the front bodice more curved or is it the same as the back?
@BeauWilder2 жыл бұрын
Ahh Betty, thank you so much. So for a man... the arm scye shape (as far as I know on my own body) is the same shape front and back. What you will find however is that the sleeve shape will be more steep on one side to account for the bodies movement. I hope that helps

Your videos have really helped me to understand the concept, but my measurements aren’t working for the armscye. What am I doing weird? Thanks again for your help!
@BeauWilder2 жыл бұрын
Ok... So it is a disadvantage I never went through how to take correct measurements (or how I have winged them anyway). But I'd look at that measurement again or even one better.. you identified it doesn't look right... So between the shoulder and the side of the body... Experiment with the curve... I know it's not the best advice.. maybe I could make a video on how to troubleshoot basic bodice problems?
