Alright dude, what do I owe you? My first born? Danny, I agree that this is golf's best drill, but there is a step two that I use to help transition to having both hands fully on the club. Step two for me is the take the left hand palm off the club and just hold the club in the fingers and thumb of the left hand so the right hand is still in full control. You will be amazed at how well you can hit the golf ball with this left hand palm off the club step two. Once you can do this well then work in the full left hand grip. I've actually played full rounds of golf with my left hand palm off like this.

Dan I’ve been doing this drill for a number of years. It is my all time fave drill and brilliant for working out flaws. Keeping on this theme what I also like to do is at the top add my other hand but still pretending I only have the one hand on the grip. Once you really get this one handed feel you will notice.how well you are opening up, shallowing, quality of strike, transition. It just makes it all become so much clearer. Also when you use one hand only to the top when you from that position add your other hand you will notice how much depth and width you get. So it’s a win win. Keep up the great work Dan.

A great reminder! 50 plus years ago, my first instructor told me this. "When you are swinging poorly, just throw the club down the fairway. A good golf swing is a good throw with the right hand." When I remember, it helps. :-) I am definitely adding this to my practice. Danny, a good teacher takes what is complex and makes it simple to understand.

I kind of knew the catapult principle from a pro class but I still sent most balls flying all over the place. But now, having practiced the one-handed drill for a few days, I'm suddenly hitting far and straight! Not always, of course, I've just been playing for a few months, but more often than not! And it feels so effortless. I'd just like to thank you for making something that seems really difficult feel so easy. I love your videos! Greetings from Oslo, Norway

Hi Danny, thanks for this vlog. I have been playing golf as a one handed left hand golfer for the past five years using right hand golf clubs. At the end of last season due to not been totally happy with my swing I decided to look into left handed golf with my golf coach playing left hand golf clubs. Instantly I found that I had more power and control. Yes you are right it does take time to develop a consistent swing technique, but it’s worth it in the end. Your vlog demonstrates everything I am now able to do. The club that it has helped me the most with so far is the driver. I have gained up to 50 yards and now able to hit a consistent straight ball, something I found difficult to do when playing my right hand driver. My swing change has totally transformed my game for the better. Cheers

Danny Maude, you are a genius. When all the other instructors are telling their student about ‘ground force’, ‘differential between the ‘x’ axis vs ‘y’ axis’, etc etc, you teach ‘throw the ball down the range’. Incredible simpleness that works. This prove that golf is a hard enough game, and it shouldn’t be complicated more by all the insane teaching technique. Amazing work Danny!!!!

Update: Danny, my son and I tried your one handed method on the range. Wow!! We have the tendency to rush our downswing. With the one hand swing, we had to fully finish our backswing. It’s impossible to rush the downswing because like you say you’ve taken the strength away. Got the feeling of a little pause on top. When we put the left hand on the swing, voila, much better swing tempo. Genius. Genius. Thank you.

I’ve done drills like this for years. David Lee is a former PGA player and now instructor who advocated drills like like this in his “Gravity Golf” series. Danny Maude again shows unconventional methodology and yet brilliance in teaching the game. These drills work, and often times when I “lose” my swing on the course- a drill like this can quickly recover form and save the round. Well done (again) Danny!

Daniel, I watch most, if not all of your videos, so I took this one to the range yesterday and let me tell you that is a game changer. My HDC is currently at 10.8 but I'm so inconsistent that I can break 80 one day and then struggle to shoot under 100 the next . I started this drill with an 8 iron (no warm up) and was able to hit the ball one handedly after 2-3 tries, then it was pure magic. I then started hitting 5 balls one-handedly followed by one ball two-handed. I found the 5/1 ratio balanced enough for me. I went back to the Pitching wedge and moved all the way down to the 5 iron. Repeated this set like 3 times. Not one shank. I struggled with the driver (losing many shots to the right) but I'll get it eventually. Thank you again. Greetings from Miami.
@quantumpotential7639 Жыл бұрын
If you're playing any hole down there in Miami facing North, all your shanks will wind up in the Atlantic Ocean. Prolly well beyond the breakers. Hopefully this drill will prevent you from having to swim out there amidst the sharks to fetch your shanked balls. Thanks.

So true! 30 year teaching pro here. I happen to think it works well because it gets students to wind the forearm correctly, counterclockwise for right handers. So the club works down unwinding the forearm clockwise. Which leads to many good things! S throwing action! It's hard for people to do this with the left hand on for various reasons. Anyway, I try and start students this way. It takes some time to be able to do it but it's worth it. Good work!

Great drill. After many years away from golf, I've been on the range the last couple of months getting back into my swing... and have been swinging one handed the last few weeks to get some good feel (and to cock my back swing and not be lazy). Sending this to my friend who I convinced to get into golf this year. He's really struggling to get a fluid swing, and his distance is suffering because of it. I certainly thing I fall into the muscling category. I get great contact, have started dialing in my swing path and can choose my shot shape, but I often feel like I'm straining and overexerting after my swings, especially as I move up in club. Only thing that would make this video better in my opinion is a before and after of those golfers. We got to see them swing well with one arm, but how were they before this?

It was refreshing to see that I’m not crazy. Great video! Left hand only swings is also very beneficial. Tiger does it. Enough said. One handed swings tell you where, and how to grip the club properly too. Then, just combine those grips, and feels with your normal swing(both hands). It’s a game changer people. Trust me. Brilliant video as most of your content! I’ve been struggling with my chip shots and one handed chip works just fine. Trying to convert the same feeling to two handed chip. Our club pro suggested this drill but he never explained as you did and therefore I never committed to the drill. Thanks!

Thanks for the comment Karri, let me know how it goes...Im actually chipping quite a bit one handed right now as its great for creating spin on the shots

danny i'm gonna try this although it will be a bit of a challenge because i'm naturally left handed but golf right so i'm not that coordinated with the right side. it makes alot of sense.

Love this one. It forces the player to return the trail elbow to the ribs immediately in the downswing. That will allow all the other good positions to happen.

Great video. I have a friend who is an amputee and plays with one arm. Not a long hitter, but extremely straight.

I know I am just restating what was said below, but this was a great tip for developing the feel of a proper swing. I plan for my next round to take two one handed practice swings, then one full practice before my tee shots to see if they are better.

I just want to say thank you, practicing your drills at the range have helped me take 10 shots off my game and I broke 90 against my dad for the first time ever this past weekend! Amazing content and keep up the great work!

@@PiePye I must have been asleep when I wrote that. I remember beating my dad for the first time it was the next best thing to beating Jack Nicklaus in my mind. I shot a 45 for 9 holes. That was not only fun, but a defining moment in my life. After that victory I remember thinking at the time WHO else wants a piece of me? This winning is FUN. I was only 7 years old at the time but it was a right of passage in some respects. To taste victory is like honey to a bear. Once you taste it, it always tastes yummy and never gets old. You gotta love the game, and the pursuit for personal excellence. Thanks 😊

Like a lot of us Canucks, I'm right-handed in life but leftie at golf. I started swinging with just my right arm (lead side) and I found out I hit it much better (feels like I'm pulling back and up with the lead shoulder) than my erratic default swing.. Now I tried to do the same swing with my left arm (trail side) as you do in your video and It's almost impossible.. If hopefully this drill may help finally figure out how to get both arms cooperating instead of fighting.. Thanks.

Hi Danny, yet another great tip from your good self..... at our club we have a guy who lost his left arm years back, and only plays right handed, with a Prothese on his left arm, which he only uses to steady the club a bit.... he’s got a 10 something handicap..... by the way brought my handicap down to 14,2 thanks to watching your videos... and practice of course 😎 keep up the good work Danny, 👍🏻👍🏻
