Your advice was gold. For some additional clearance, I removed the nuts on the left motor mount and jacked up the engine about 2 inches, it opened up the gap between the exhaust and the frame considerably. Thank you again !

If you take the 2 screws off of the starter and remove the smaller piece first it comes out easy. Remove the 3 bolts slide the starter out flip it down and remove the 2 Phillips head screws and it slides right out. Also just remove the one bolt on the steering. Easy.

I just replaced one of these starters on a 07 300 touring rwd and it was pretty hard. On prodemand it says to remove the exhaust and nothing about that steering column rod which I still needed to detach from the rack and pinion side. Unplugged all 4 o2 sensors, removed two nuts for that heat shield, removed a pair of nuts on each exhaust pipe going to manifolds and lowered it just gave me enough space to get it out by pushing exhaust up and left. There was also a metal shim spacer plate between starter and trans that made the job harder to do.

Thats why I made this vid. Its the easiest and sometimes taking off those exhaust bolts they strip or snap off then your couple hour job turns into a whole shit show.

I found it easier to drop the steering rack and separate it from the intermediate steering shaft. I also had to detach the shift cable bracket and oil cooler hose bracket. Quite tedious disconnecting the B+ wire and solenoid connector.

Just replaced the starter on my charger RT /5.7 and it was literally the easiest starter I’ve ever replaced! From start to finish, no power tools or organized tool box to work out of, 22 minutes! Most of that was searching for the right sockets. After seeing this video, it further puzzles me as to why the hell anyone would buy a V6 Charger! 🤷🏼♂️🤦🏽♂️

It was given to me because it needed a couple things so couldnt pass up the deal after the starter replacement I sold it because it pissed me off that much lol

What tools you need for the starter removal?
@871gmoney3 жыл бұрын
Sorry I cannot remember off of memory but a prybar, a1/4 and 3/8 ratchet and few sockets ranging 7 or 8 mm to 15 mm but again don't hold me to it . Its been a while since I've done the last one.

What size is that bolt that connects to the rack?

Going off of memory(so I could be a off by a little), I believe it was a 10mm or 13mm. I hope this helps.

Just a tip.....remove the exhaust bolts and move the exhaust. It will give you more than enough play to pull the starter out and put the new one in with a slight twist. Trust me it works. Not trying to offend at all, just share new knowledge my guy. Take it easy.

Rusted bolts that would have definitely broke or rounded off. My route was to get the job done without having another 2 to 5 hours of work

I used your way and it worked out well. I had to do a little twisting and turning but the starter came out without having to pry on the tranny lines. Also I just removed the heat shield instead of beating it up. This way is easier instead of removing the catalytic converter for me. That actually was a two hour set back for me starting out trying to remove the cat when all I had to do was remove one bolt from the steering rod and the starter was out. One man job. Steering rod went right back on the rack and pinion with no problem. Thanks for posting this, your video helped

Imagine taking old one out and replacing with a new one. Only to have the starter ground out the battery. I think the part you bolt on for the cable id rubbing the motor. Working on taking it back out so I can reassess the situation. Starter is currently stuck

I am trying to install my steering column but it doesn't want to go back on . Any special tricks you used to connect the two bottom pieces that the bolt came out of?
@871gmoney5 жыл бұрын
It was a huge pain. I used a pry bar for leverage. As far as lining them up I had someone inside turning the steering wheel very slowly until it lined up

@@871gmoney yeah on all the charger starters I've changed out, I've been lucky enough to be able to remove the four exhaust bolts without issue. I do always spray them with pb blaster as well.

So 4 bolts or take 1 bolt out? I'll take the 1 bolt out
@manguchas4 жыл бұрын
@@fatnfurious9171 you still have to pry bar the starter out. With the exhaust removed you have good clearance to remove it freely and you struggle less with the bolts, and wires. And not to mention to reinstall the knuckle back on the rack can be a headache too
