Definitely do more on "adding" batteries and dual battery setups. Until we get graphene batteries, adding capacity is the the option we need.

No, but I've thought about it. I've got a Juiced Rip Current, 52V, 13 ah with a 750 watt. If I were to get a triangle battery would I need to change my controller? I've also got an old Sondors 36V with a 350 watt. Maybe I should up grade it.

Three years ago I bought both Kyle's battery and controller upgrades. Prior to that I was going to sell the Rover so to get a faster bike, with a lot more torque. But after installing Kyle's upgrades what says it all: I decided to keep the bike and I still have it. Why? Because my top speed on the flat lands the Rover went from throttle-only 20 mph max (on the flat lands with the wind at my back) to throttle-only 30+ mph. And more importantly, going up the somewhat steep hill to my house atop Nob Hill (San Francisco) I can now use throttle-only, moving from a full stop at the bottom of the hill to cruising the whole way at 15 mph. And if I set #3 on peddle assist with minimal peddling I can got the entire way at 15 mph. That significant improvement in torque is what I was looking for. Bottom line: thanks to Kyle's power upgrades my Rad Rover feels and functions like I'm a commander of an M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank. Bonus Tip: Guys, if you increase the power of your bike, both in speed and torque, if your bike has simple mechanical disk brakes, I highly recommend you or a bike mechanic install a set of hydraulic brakes. (As our good fortune would have it, Area 13 has a video on the how-to of installing hybrid hydraulic brakes, and they sell sets too.) Remember, the bikes that have mechanical disk brakes were designed around the slower speeds of these bikes from the factory. When you make the bike 20 to 30 percent faster, you need a rock solid set of hydraulic brakes. They are a little spendy ($150 to $200, depending on what set you want, complete hydraulics, or hybrid), but what I always ask myself, what is my safety worth. It sure as heck is worth more than $200.

Thank You! I've had that bike 10 months now, and put 1900 miles on it. Questions first, then insights. 1. Does the triangle (trapezoid) battery have the triple anti-fire safety features that the Rad battery has? 2. Would I need to reprogram the KT-LCD, or will it readout still be accurate? To improve my bike I added extra waterproofing everywhere it's needed. I also painted my battery case light colored to reduce the heat collection in the sun. I'd do the same if I got your suggested battery. I ride in rain & snow. For preventing the triangle battery theft, I'd either superglue a motion detector/alarm, or create a steel cable wrapping around the bike frame & battery with a lock. I also tested the bike with lead-acid batteries, but find it only efficient on level roads during low to no wind days, and price-wise.

I did the upgrade kit, new 750 w motor and 52 w 20ah battery. The issues I had were with connectors from battery to the controller and I opted to make my own connector. The real tricky part that you didn't mention Kyle was that to remove the new motor, you need to either go with a special tool that I think you carry but is difficult to locate on your website or use an alternate freewheel. I wanted a different gear ratio anyway so went with the freewheel. That is where I discovered that Bafang discourages this by using security torx screws and you need a really good torx bit to remove those little rascals! I should have it completed in a couple of days after one more part arrives. I do want to thank Bolton for everything in putting together a great upgrade kit!
@theunbannedhacker12372 жыл бұрын
To remove the motor you just pull the wheel out... Or you have to pull the motor out of the wheel, at which point you would have to re-spoke it in a new wheel. Lord help you if you started disassembling the motor LOL.

A 48 volt battery 14 series. Fully charged is 58.6 volt. A 48 volt 13 series battery fully charged is 54.3 volt. 48-volt ebike controller can handle upto 75 volt. If a battery is not charging any higher you need upgrade your BMS or remove it completely. And make sure the battery charger can charge upto the highest voltage the battery needs.. This upgrade will cost nothing or next to nothing. You certainly don't need to upgrade batteries. This channel will not tell you that. They won't make money.

You certainly don't need to replace battery WTF You can't damage batteries by dropping them. Especially if they are inside a case. But you can break connections and BMS board by dropping it. Replacing BMS board is normal wear and tear. They often stop working This is very common knowledge. You don't need experience it's very very easy and basic to replace. if don't know how to fix or replace basic parts. No reason having one It will cost you hundreds. If you buy a new battery and when the BMS brakes. What are you going to do buy another battery lol 😂 At the moment I don't even have a BMS board in my battery pack

I agree, it's not too hard to make a custom cradle and custom hard shell triangle battery case, and would look so much better but also be upto10x better at being waterproof and damage resistant. I get the appeal of the bag batteries but they are for generic conversion kits IMO, if you are making a product for something so met a like the Rad then more effort in making it custom for that bike would make u sell alot more, as right now all u are selling is a triangle battery + bag + harness options, this can all be had from ebay easily, although personally if I was to buy such a thing then I would defo get it from yourself over ebay as u r an IRL trusted seller imo.

Love the slow explanation of how look at things. Great job.

I am in the process of an upgrade. I am adding a second 22.4 AH 48 V battery using a polar bear 50 amp combiner. The second battery will be mounted on the rear rack. The other approach is to disassemble your existing pack and put in a larger number of higher AH cells. Or, pull the entire battery pack and base from your bike, and replace the entire assembly with another Hailong battery with a better rating.

You inspired me to make a switchable connector for my soon to be 2 battery Ebike. Currently I only have a single 20ah 48v battery on a seat mounted newspaper carrier in a bag that came with a front tire 1000 watt hub motor kit and controller.

This seems to be one of most approachable and practical Ebike upgrades that I have seen on KZbin. I have Currie 24V bike.... Missing missing Lead Acid batteries. That's a good thing! Looking to do something similar using a new Lithium Ion for 28 volts... Basically keeping this obsolete E-Bike Stock as far as controller, and motor is concerned. Any existing batteries out there. Batter Bag Mount or using the downtube batter box suitable for a mounting point on the frame.

I sure would like to see some of your items back in stock, especially the controller and cables! Thanks!

I am just using rc car lipos for my bike. 3s 5200mah batteries run about $45 on Amazon for a pack of 2. 2 in parallel and 2 in series gives me 10400mah or 10ah and 24v nominal for my 24v Ebike motor. Range of about 9 miles. Easily upgraded just by getting some more lipos and plugging them in. Custom charging solution and I’m all setup.

Also, I have always dug your shirt, they don't make e-bike shirts out there. The ones that I've had to buy are kind of corny, but I'll be the envy of my group to have one of those babies on! Your friend Tim, keep those videos coming

I’ve upgraded my ebike battery from 60v 12ah to 72v 23ah battery. Also changed the controller and hub motor. Thinking of getting a new bike and doing it all again!

Very informative videos. I am only learning about Erikes cause I’d like to get one and this channel is the most honest reviewing bikes and parts. Keep it going!

A 52 volt and 48 volt CAN be connected in parallel with the parallel connection module. The load will be on the 52 volt until it drains to the fully charged 48 volt. Then the load will drain off both batteries until the 52 volt reaches its low cutoff. Then the module will only run off the 48 volt until it's discharged. Most 48 volt controllers will handle up to 60 volts so the 52/48 volt combo with the module will work perfectly. If you're unsure open your controller and check the capacitors. Most are rated up to 60 volts. This works quite well. It gives the speed advantage of the higher voltage of the 52 volt battery AND you get the extra capacity of keeping the 48 volt battery in the system.

I believe the term for the type of circuit for the parallel battery connector is a battery management system or battery balancing board.
