I'm new to your channel and I can say that you do such an amazing job in being clear and purposeful in your tutorials. You are direct and give clear instructions as well as give a reason why you are doing a specific thing. I really appreciate your tutorials and I hope to see more from you. A lot of people who do tutorials don't do them as clear as you do. Great job!

Attempting to do principle texture setup (CTRL SHIFT T) for custom textures but its not setting things up/importing them...any suggestions?
@JustTheBasics Жыл бұрын
Hmm, do you have the Node Wrangler addon enabled inside of blender? You can check by going to Edit > Preferences > Addons > then searching for "Wrangler." Just make sure that box is ticked. Alternatively, it can also be caused by the naming of your custom textures, if you look under preferences in the node wrangler addon section, it features a list of naming conventions your textures need in order for blender to identify which node slot they need to be connected to - for instance your diffuse texture (Base colour) would need to be titled something to the effect of Texture_Diffuse or texture_diff. Hopefully that makes some sense? But if you still have any questions, please feel free to reply and let me know :)

You can use quixel with blender free as well. Seach some tutorials here but it was as simple as selectin Blender from settings in Bridge, and intaslling the add-on in blender. works great.
@defnotpb22 жыл бұрын
hey do you know why when i try to export/download something from quixel, it wont work?
@NathanRitchie2 жыл бұрын
@@defnotpb2 it can be a bit fussy. Check to see if the LOD you want is actually downloaded locally. Sometimes my import is trying to load level 3 but only level 5 exists. Also, try hitting file/import/megascans before importing from bridge. Failing that you can always import the fbx or obj from your local megascans library. You have to set up the material manually but it works when nothing else will.

I bet adding shrubs and branchy trees would add some variation and distract from some of the repeating textures.
@JustTheBasics2 жыл бұрын
I think that's a fantastic suggestion! I'll try and do a follow up tutorial on creating a more detailed Canyon environment. I've been doing some research on creating more realistic landscapes without putting too much of a load on your PC so shrubs and branchy trees would definitely go a long way and aren't too heavy on the GPU either.

What's the difference between scaling the UV map and scaling the X,Y,Z size in the Mapping node in the shader editor?
@Pieceoreece2 жыл бұрын
scaling in the shader editor affects the material itself, so if you had multiple objects using that material then all of those objects will be affected by the scaling. If you scale with UV then only the object you're editing will be affected.

how do i export the texture in blender it's not showing!! please help
@JustTheBasics2 жыл бұрын
Oh no! What seems to be the problem you're having? Is it when you go to export the textures from Quixel Bridge to Blender? If it is, you can try downloading the latest Quixel plugin for blender - (just go to google and search "Quixel Blender Plugin" and it should bring up quixel.com/plugins) then just download the latest plugin (3.6) and go to blender > edit > preferences > addons > install and select the zip download (3.6.zip) That will reinstall the Quixel plugin. Then restart both blender and Quixel bridge (make sure to save your project first!) and you should be able to export with no dramas :) If that doesn't fix it or you have any other problems, feel free to let me know! Have a great day and hope that helps!

Is it working on eevee too? I dont want to to use Cycles so slow to me because my pc is not that good
@JustTheBasics2 жыл бұрын
Great question Zimlo! I completely understand the dilemma. You can render this out in eevee, but with the current settings as they are, it would look quite poor compared to a cycles render. I would be happy to do a modified tutorial on how to render a scene like this in eevee if you would be interested? No stress.

3840 x 2160 is NOT 4K - it is a general misconception. 3840 x 2160 is UHD, which is the double wide and the double length of HD (1920 x 1080). 4k is 4096 x 2160 it is the double wide and the double length of 2K (2048 x 1080). Its aspect ratio is 1.90∶1, which is slightly wider than UHD's 16x9. Sorry for nerding out on you ;)

This does NOT show how to create canyons in Blender. This only shows how to use heightmap downloads and then use Quixel Bridge downloads. There are real tutorials out there that will teach people how to actually use Blender and how to actually model meshes and create materials and procedural textures. I ask that the person who posted this please delete all of your videos or delete your account.
