Slavery isn't immoral islamically because Allah decreed it. Some of the wisdoms we can see behind it is that it isn't absolute ownership because you can't do as you please with them but have to stick to a code of conduct (if you insult them you have to free them, if you strike them you have to free them, you are encouraged to agree an amount of work for them to do until you set them free), nor can you even call them slaves because we are all slaves of Allah (from sahih muslim 2249). It is a responsibility and a restriction of freedom. Just as prisoners have restrictions to freedom and are controlled by their wardens due to committing a crime, slaves are taken due to the strategy of war to assimilate non combatants into your civilisation instead of killing them, or exiling them, or leaving then to do as they please which would be unstrategic since they may come with vengeance against you. The other options are either unstrategic or outright immoral Since the concept of restricting someone's freedom in your liberal/christian (if i can even call that standard christian) can conceivably be justified (restricting prisoners due to crime), we simply argue that wartime strategy is another justification. Even without all this rationalisation, we hear and obey. It's moral because the arbitrator of morality said so, Allah.
