I tried it with my seven grape vines this year. I not only have birds, I have rats, raccoons and squirrels that like to eat my grapes and it is halfway through the harvest and I have gotten every grape! I was expecting the animals to try to bite through the bags but even that hasn't happened! This is one amazing trick!

He mentioned gallon-sided bags. The bags can probably be re-used if polyester.

kbld1 ..FYI a gallon bag is approx 11x 11 inch if you want to make your own.. I would make a drawstring 12 inch bag and use french seams.. keeps them clean and tidy

Organza bags are made of a breathable mesh... more of a fabric than a plastic.

GREAT IDEA - I would think you could actually 1. HARVEST the grapes WITH the bags still ON... and then 2. CRUSH your grapes THROUGH the bags, and get SELF-STRAINING grape juice for wine-making??? Q: WHEN is it TOO SOON to bag my grapes? Right now I've got oodles (hundreds) of bunches with pinhead-sized grapes across about 15 vines... but I SWEAR that THIS it the time I LOSE them all... Seems to have worked for the birds. But unfortunately not for the nighttime critters, who seem to either see it as a nice giftwrap, or just make a mess trying to get at the grapes.

You probably would need to build a support enclosed with bird netting.

Don’t try this where you have humidity or summer rain. All you will get is a bag of fungus and mildew
