How to protect grapes from birds

How did the Falcon Kite work for keeping birds away?

Here in SoCal, we have Mockingbirds, and they don't care about my Falcon Kite or much else. They will even try to attack the RedTailed and Coopers Hawks around here. We bought fruit-zone netting last year, and they even got INSIDE it. I'll be trying again with fruit zone netting this year, fastened with tag barbs at close intervals, plus some spacers on the T-posts to hold the nets away from the fruit.
