For the few of you saying I "copied" this from Unmesh: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r3Omm2uBnJ6fkMk -- 1.) I do it differently than Unmesh does. 2.) If you search for how to remove a fence on KZbin, you'll find dozens of videos on it. I would bet that Unmesh wasn't the first -- my quick search found one channel with a video, teaching it exactly as Unmesh does it and that video was posted on the same exact day as Unmesh's video. 3.)Why all the hate? I'm just trying to help people yet you feel compelled to post on my videos denigrating me, a person you've never met. I'm a real person who lives a life with emotions -- do you feel better making me feel bad? Who hurt you few people so much that you get joy out of hurting those you've never met? For the majority of you that do support what I'm doing, thank you.

Hate filled comments run rampant throughout social media. I can only guess that folks with low self-esteem make themselves feel better by denigrating others whom most people in the community admire. Thanks for all your hard work. You are one of my “go to” KZbinrs for all things Photoshop.

I saw your video on FStoppers. I did a quick search and found the same....other videos that were published before Unmesh published his. I guess being a whiny keyboard tough makes some feel superior. I'm just glad there's photographers out there that take that much time in front of their monitors to make these videos.

Photoshop is constantly evolving. Not so long ago the spot healing brush was truly awful, now it's great. What was appropriate several years ago will not be the most effective way today. After Adobe Live perhaps there will be another way and maybe PTC will post a newer vid (or maybe Phlearn will beat him to it). Different editors approach similar problems in different ways. It's useful to compare and contrast then find your own way. I have learnt tons of stuff on this channel - please don't be put off. Keyboard warriors remind me of the 'tough' guys who hang mini boxing gloves from their rear view mirrors. Generally inadequate and would run a mile if you said boo to them in the street.

Hi Mr Morganti, this is fantastic. I have got so many photos in my LRC catalogue of Lions and Tigers taken at a zoo we regularly visit In Pembrokeshire, Wales, United Kingdom. I took them with a 500 mm lens in the main, so I`ve managed to almost get rid of the fence, but now I can go into all these photos and clean them up using this technique. That will come in handy. I've been using the clone tool as my 'go to' repair tool since I started using PS. I also just buckle down and use the lasso tool when I need to cut out a foreground object instead of the wand. Wiping a quick selection never gets me results as good the first time as "going in deep" myself.

Anthony: as difficult as it may seem sometimes, you simply have to let things roll off your back and move on. I don't know of anyone who hasn't been targeted with negative comments. Anticipate it, ignore it and continue to do what you do best: offer people some complimentary education that they should appreciation for. I am guessing Unmesh has some stories he could tell as well.

Thanks a bunch for this fine tutorial. I've subscribed to your channel, accolades! 👏👏👏 I might have missed it but in case I didn't folks might want to know the keyboard shortcut for the quick mask tool is *"Q".* Also, if you use a keyboard that is not US standard, you will need to find the increase-decrease keys for your layout. In my case, with a Spain Spanish keyboard it was impossible for me to get the ] & [ to work. Surprise, this is new to me: the characters next to the 0 (zero), in my case ' (apostrophe) and ¡ (inverse exclamation) decrease and increase the brush size. Further wonder, you can change size and hardness of the brush *with the mouse!* Just press and drag horizontally with mouse for size, vertical for hardness.

Thanks Anthony. Shift F5 brings up content aware on PC's. Also most folk probably know this but if you can shoot with a very fast prime at wide aperture say f1.4 you can generally magic away such fences right from the get go when shooting. But your approach is great where you don't have a choice of lens to do that
@jlopez7596
@jlopez7596 2 жыл бұрын
Shift f5 is technically the fill tool which has an option for filling with content aware. It does not bring up the content aware dialouge box which provides the full options. Do you have a link to a tutorial where a fast prime will eliminate the foreground vs just changing the depth of field. I use alot of gobos with fast primes and I have yet to have the item not appear in the image. I would certainly like learn what you mentioned.
@longboardfella5306

@@jlopez7596 thanks for the extra info. No link - just personal experiments. I found I needed to put my lens right up against the wire - if there was any distance to the camera it wouldn't blur it out. And the subject needed to be some distance away so that you could focus "through" the wire to the subject. And f1.4 or 1.8 was needed. Hope this helps
@phlotographer
@phlotographer 2 жыл бұрын
@@longboardfella5306 your method of being able to be close to the fence is absolutely correct. The issue is when one can't get close to the fence which can be an issue for safety as big cats etc can create havoc if the photographer is close to the fence so often there is space where humans can stand but the fence might be 15' closer to the animal enclosure and thus can't be eliminated through depth of field even with a fast long focal length lens which also may be too expensive for many non professional photographers and even some pros.

Actually, it's just a two-step process: 1. paint a quick mask over the fence and delete with the content aware selected. 2. clean up any imperfections as you would in any other image. 95% of the time the spot healing brush will do the job.

Thanks for another masterful lesson. FYI: 1. Shift F5 brings up the fill menu on a PC, 2. a brush hardness of 100% is needed to (almost) completely remove the wires. The first time I tried it, brush hardness was set to around 50% and removal was incomplete.

So... Quickmask, black brush, white if you need to undo a stroke or area of stroke, turn off Quickmask which produces a selection, then do Content Aware Fill and Boom! The fence is gone and then ensues a pile of touch up with Spot Healing brush, Clone Stamp, and Healing Brush.. Thank you so much for this video!

How timely--well, almost: I took a picture of a big ol' bull yesterday with a nice, safe 3-strand barbed wire fence between me and him. I wanted the image to look like I was standing in the pasture WITH the bull to see if anyone thought I had risked life and limb for the shot. I went through a tedious piecewise content-aware fill process and it looks great. The masking tool you demonstrated would have made it a 2-minute piece of cake. Thanks.

Hi, thanks for the video, I recently took some pictures of a lion, which was further away from fence and I was able to get reasonably close, but as I was using 150-600mm lens the aperture was 7.1 so I have some darker lines that are quite thick but not that noticeable. I have used the dodge brush to try and lighten them up in Affinity photo ( I don't have photoshop), which did a half reasonable job. I have tried using quick mask, but it looked pretty awful. I don't know if that's because I messed up, it was difficult to actually see the specific lines of the fence. Do you have any suggestions as to the best way to remove the fence in that situation. Thank you

Paul -- maybe communicate with Carl Surry who does AP tutorials and is quite amenable to doing requests. Dave of InAffinity or Olivio might also do something to show the steps for AP. I don't know if Anthony is doing AP tutorials but I am sure he will do something related to this once the wire removal is shown in Luminar NEO so subscribe to his channel as he an others keep on top of Luminar and present great tutorials. I may have something in my collection of images and will try doing something with PhotoScape X but I also tend to try to eliminate power lines etc when taking the exposure in camera. One issue I have with Luminar is that often the Click >Shift > click to select straight lines while available on the MAC platform is not available to the PC user unfortunately.

Question: do you need to save your work as you progress?
@phlotographer
@phlotographer 2 жыл бұрын
may depend upon the program being used. I often do that but if the program offers history unless you do something dastardly you likely will be ok. Personally, I would do save as and name the file based upon what I did. Creating Macros can be useful and certainly in PSX, save as a project will be perfect and with Luminar, it automatically saves with all the info whenever a save is done by the user. Also a good idea is to have a program or RAID configuration so that incremental BU's are made continuously and then when complete to additional BU's of all files weekly or monthly depending upon use as a personal project or professional. I try to triple BU -- RAID + monthly 2 one stored off premises.

For the majority of you that do support what I'm doing, thank you.

is there a way to remove a fence like this from a 30sec video?

Brilliant. Thanks! Personally, from a compositional perspective, I would have restored the grass in front of the feline face-rather than clone it out-as would give more depth

My fence was not in focus. It was ver light. The mask did not recognize it. Anything I could do for that situation?

Bummer. This was going perfectly until I realized I do not have content aware as an option. :( I am using an older version of Photoshop. Thanks for the tutorial all the same. - Heidi

Excellent video as always. But sadly I just do not understand photoshop, it literally just goes straight over my head. And no matter how many videos I watch I just don't get it. I use Lightroom daily, but for some reason I cannot use photoshop.

Great timing. I was at a zoo last week and got a great shot of a jaguar except for the fence! Off to try this right now! Thankyou.

Haters really need to put their Kleenex boxes away, switch the light on and look at themselves in a mirror - ask themselves 'are you looking at the person you REALLY want to be', if so, hopefully you'll grow up one day.

Appreciate the video a lot, Anthony. Now I'm going to make your life miserable. I have an interesting sunrise taken from in front of my home--no time to go to a clear area. It has a zillion twigs in front of it. Far too tedious to try and remove them using the technique in this video. Any suggestions? They're sort of like a fence, sort of like thick power lines, but neither exactly. I thought of using a color or luminance range mask (since they're a dark brown color), but I don't know what to do after I've made a mask selection with these types of masks. Probably that's because I am ignorant in Photoshop. Would be great if I could then just tell the computer to blend it in with the background and hit delete, but I don't know if anything like is possible in Photoshop or any other program. Help!
