So basically the grabber is pretty much based of a serial killer named John Wayne Gacy who used to assault and m*rder young boys, then hide them under his floor boards. If you look at his victims you can see the similarities between them and the kid actors in this movie. It’s really sad which is why this movie is really depressing.

I love this movie! I don’t think the storyline was disconnected or that some scenes/dialogue were just for “movie magic”. I think you guys might have missed a couple of subtle clues and were confused (a lot), like the coke-head brother tracking all of the abductions around their house on the map he had on the wall. That’s why he was going to check the basement and was contemplating going down there because he couldn’t believe it was under his nose or his brother killing kids beneath where he lives. He just didn’t come up with the idea. lol

I LOVE this movie. All of the pieces come together for the end. The cord is used to trip him and the grate to break his foot, the hole in the ground is used to trap him in, the phone packed with dirt to hit him, the code for the lock, and even going into the freezer to get the meat to distract the dog. All of it is SUCH a good payoff! This is probably one of my favorite thriller movies, though I was super anxious the whole time bc I absolutely hate the very notion of kids getting hurt. Also, the brother went to the basement because he realized all of the missing kids were surrounding the area near the home, thus he went go investigate it when he realized that.

I might be wrong, but I thought they were trying to hint that the dad was a veteran and that his problems were PTSD related, like his alcoholism and sensitivity to noises. They also showed that newspaper article he was reading in the beginning was about unfair military pensions, and it's known that post Vietnam War drafts were replaced with volunteers only (meaning before that everyone was forced to go and then just deal with if they ever made it back). OR maybe the noise thing is just cause he worked at a loud af nuclear facility... Idk, I still think they were going for that haunted, lights are on but no one's home, traumatized ex-military kinda vibe 🤷🏽‍♀

I really like this movie but it never got its flowers. It’s underrated, but at least the actor who plays Finney (Mason) is getting good work after this. Ethan Hawke has a great track record for horror movies, I hope he does more. The Carrie reaction is dope and is one of my favorites along with the Jennifer’s Body video. I have a feeling this reaction is gonna be up there too:)

This is another film where marketing didn't do it justice, sort of like Jennifer's Body. They were advertising it as a horror film so it 'disappointed' a lot of people who went in wanting to watch that. It should have been advertised as a psychological thriller or mystery with supernatural elements. But at least we are getting BLACK PHONE 2 next year!! I can't wait to see where the heck they take this story. I know Finney/ Finn, and Gwen are returning, I believe Ethan Hawke is too. I'm not sure if it will be a prequel, I'm assuming they will continue the story and Ethan Hawke might just be in flashbacks maybe since the kids will be older. I just know I can't wait lol

So the way one of the kids died was by the dog hence why I believe he says his arm is mint or something and he’s semi mauled and each step was helping Finn get the grabber in the end it wasn’t helping him to escape in that moment it was to help trap and kill the grabber at the end all the steps tied together

The "your arm is mint" line was a compliment that Bruce gave to Finn after the baseball game before Bruce was taken and killed. When he says that on the phone, it proves to Finn that it's him.
