A 20 something miles of rugged terrain inside the one of the most isolated parts of the San Gabriel Mountains, the East Fork of the San Gabriel. We converged at the East Fork parking lot and left our cars there, then a shuttle we rented brought us to Vincent Gap parking lot 87 miles around LA to San Bernardino county. It is a downhill hike from Vincent Gap to the bottom of Vincent Gulch. The group brought a sign post to replaced the old one in the Prairie Fork trail. Each one also carried a bag of cement and some other paraphernalia.
I have done this hike a few times already but it is the prettiest this time. The water is just like never-ending pool, it was so refreshing. The debris caused by the flash floods was not so bad as we expected. In fact it was much easier to hike the river than last year.
Thanks to Alan for the invites. Thanks to Jennifer for taking care of our shuttle ride. And also to Stevie for leading the repair of the Prairie Fork sign. Of course to Gordon for clearing the Mine Gulch trail a few days before the hike which was full of debris.
Group members:
Alan, Stevie, Jennifer, Adam, Hannah, Scott, Ian, Dean, Jason, Gordon, David, Brannon and myself.

Thanks! Yeah, the merrier the better in this kind of hike. If you haven’t yet, make sure to locate the plane crash which is quarter of a mile or less before Mine Gulch camp. I’m writing a documentary about it for the 50th anniversary.

Looka like you had a great trip. That was a velvet ant at Iron Fork. However its actually a wingless wasp, not an Ant. They have one of the worst stings out there!

Great video Robert. Thank you for the little update on my spot. I really appreciate that. It's been too long since I've been up there and I was really curious how it would look after this big winter we had. And I'm happy to see it looking pretty much just the same. Now that the river level has finally dropped to where crossing isn't so sketchy I'm gonna try to get back up there real soon!

I remember catching a gopher snake one time and it turning back on me and biting my cheek right below the eye socket. The teeth are pointed back to hold the prey and if you pull the snake, the teach hook in, That was at fish fork canyon, way over my magic mountain

Do you happen to have the waypoint coordinates to share :)? I've done the bridge trail up to Fish Fork and Vincent Gulch down to a little past Prairie Fork but I have never connected the two. I'm planning a through trip for next weekend and beginning to plan the route out now.

@20robertang 10 ай бұрын
Thanks, Edward. The place is not that bad and the last time we were there, I saw nothing like that. But to be safe just bring a buddy with you and go as far from the crowd. I heard some stories like that but it can happen anywhere now. You know the situation of our state, but that should not stop us from enjoying our public lands. So be out there and bring some friends and be in the wild.

How do I access this trail?
@20robertang
@20robertang 7 ай бұрын
The way we do our thru-hike is always down stream starting from Vincent Gap parking lot. Follow the Mine Gulch trail down to the bottom. Once you get to Mine Gulch trail camp area, there is no maintained trail anymore. We just make ourselves go through whenever possible meaning - bushwhacking. It’s more than 20 miles total. We mainly walk on used track and crossed river a countless times.

FYI, do not try this hike in 2024. High river flow makes it extremely difficult and dangerous. Next to impossible without truly risking your life crossing the river 50+ times.
