sloping backs are important in working and show lines ( i don´t like showlines) its for giving the dog a correct movement and more power and speed, some showlines breeder went too far with the sloped backs but thats not the case of most of the working lines german sheperds.

You dog guys get too hung up on this “lines” thing, unless your aiming for high level competitive dog sport it really won’t make any difference, for family protection any German Shepherd with training is just as good provided it has confidence & some defense drive, what I mean is no matter what lineage it has in its dna, any serious threat from a determined human attacker no dog will be able to defend you from it, a dog has the intelligence of a young child & can easily be neutralised no matter what bloodline it’s from, the best it can do is maybe alert you to the intruders presence which even a scruffy mongrel can do, a shield/barrier + pepper spray/chilli powder will render any dog useless, & in agony, you can spend many thousands on a ‘top bloodline’ dog, spend many times that training it to a high level or even spend $50-100 thousand buying a fully trained protection dog of any breed, it may give you a false sense of security but in reality, against an attacker who has a brain who plans around the dog it’s of no use, it’s just a dog. Now against a drug addict or mugger in the street, sure it will stop the attacker from targeting you, but so will any confident large breed of dog with some basic protection training you can do yourself at home. For regular people this is adequate enough, for police/military or high level competition sports bloodlines are important but don’t kid yourselves, a dog cannot protect you against a human who plans to target you, it’s just a dog. For some very rich individual it gives them a sense of peace knowing they have a highly trained dog for protection, at home, $50-100k for that peace of mind is probably worth it, but someone who would target a wealthy individual isn’t gonna be deterred by any dog/s....it’s not gonna be some opportunistic, malnourished drug addict.

Back in the eighties in Hungary my family had one of these old type Gsd. He was grey like some you see on this video. His name was Nero and my father said he was straight out of working stock. He looked and acted really differently than the ones I see in Canada.

I am only interested in military working dogs. Healthy dogs with a straight back. Dutch dogtrainers only use healthy dogs. Pure bred, mixtures, as long as they are healthy.

These dogs weren't bred for show and don't have an exaggerated slope. A natural slope is fine and some have that, or it appears so in how theyre photographed. These are some of the hardiest GSDs ever breed. They were working dogs, solely. Again, youre mostly blind or ignorant. Or both

+stoneroses13 there is one in there that is an american bred DDR that I think you are looking at. it is a little odd but if it checks out ok by the vet and independent inspection of the xray, it will be accepted. It's for work, not looks like bill said. the others are just in a sprawled stance. staggered legs at attention. they take of from a favored leg on the back. in other words, that's how they stand, not what they look like when both legs are inline. Also, there is an illusion on the ddr created by a docked tail that makes the stance look even more angled. My DDR does not have much of a slant at all except for when she is talking and pauses. Then it looks like the sprawled slant you see in these photos. Good luck! My female is my first DDR. The three before her were all American breeds with goals of pets and show, not working. They were great but weak and dumb compared to my new one. Hate to say that too. They were all good GSD.

some of them were from the German bloodlines. Others were Czech. I agree that some do look odd but it's not all of them that are like that. It also depends on the angle the dog is at. When stacked incorrectly a dog can look like it has more slope and more leg angulation. Also when the dogs pull on the leash/lead the dog is putting more strength in the front then on the back... leaving the hind legs over stretched in an awkward way making the rest of the body look shorter. Ever since the wall fell (28 years ago = ten generations) DDR dogs have been bred for Schutzhund competition just like the western lines. Before that "working" for most of them meant that were tied to posts or taken on perimeter patrols...a far cry from herding or active police/military work.

I have a DDR Shepherd from the Eiserne Kreuz line. The top world champions in Schutzhund. He has recently Sired a litter of puppies. His only litter. They will be available in early May of 2023. Shaleen Dalal the ddr shepherds are the sables which is the dominant coat color for GSD they have been bred to a strict standard for decades. The more common sadle isnt the “true” coat type.

Husband has a beautiful Service Dog GSD. I plan on getting one once we are in a new home, as my SD has retired recently, need a new Seizure Alert pup, but don't have the room unless my retired boy got rehomed, which will not happen. He's my boy and has a Furever home with me already. Just need to get a bigger place with a huge yard. Apartment life isn't practical when you have lots of dogs, both working SDs and Retired. Looking for information on breeders who have good working bloodlines that don't walk on their heals. As I will need a mobility dog with my next SD and not just Seizure Alert/Response. Pricing (for military veteran, as some places offer dogs at lower prices), Health certification, and specifics on possible pups who are brave and smart as a whip (able to handle SD situations without a problem).

Czech and DDR dogs DO make GREAT guard dogs, BUT the "guard" is in the training. Find a professional that specializes in that kind of training if you really want a GREAT guard dog.
