Two tips. If get to Aberdeen, get the number 3 bus to Cove and walk the Cliff edge that the train pretty much follows. Well worth it. 2nd tip travel back to Stonehaven. Bonus Tip there is a wonderful train ticket that allows almost unlimited travel over 4 days. Use this and throw in montrose (and the Bamse walk) and Arbroath. You will not be disappointed, I promise.

The expression "like painting the Forth Bridge" has become part of the English language. Essentially, it takes 5 years to paint and the paint lasted 5 years. Now the paint that's on the bridge will last 20 years, the job is completed and rarely now will you see scaffolding for painting. It looks absolutely beautiful without it. Of course, anyone who now uses that expression should be reminded the job is now finished! As a boss of mine once said, if you argue for your limitations you get to keep them!

Thanks for this. Had the pleasure of this trip (only as far as Arbroath, where I spent a week). It was in March, and there was a bit of foul weather during my stay, but it broke and I was able to enjoy a bus ride and an afternoon up at Dunottar. Fond memories! As a 'Murrican, I love the narration and what I call an accent, though you might disagree. Also, I enjoyed the snappy 'music'. I've also taken the trip from Edinburgh out to the west, to Oban. Both lovely journeys. I'll travel there again any time I get the chance. Love the granite! Second only to malt.

Fabulous. Having lived in Burntisland until I was 2 and then made lots of visits back to see Uncles, Aunts and Grandparents, I've just realised I've never traveled further north than Kirkcaldy by train. Must do that sometime. Who knows...might even be back to live up there again soon.

My wife & I and aunts Helen & Sue visited Dunnottar Castle 🏰 in Stonehaven in June that year. Dead 😵 stunning 🤩. As quaint and modest a town Stonehaven is, long point short that town harboured a rather painful 😣 history for me regarding a former friend of mine who repeatedly 🔁 let me down time and time again which I won’t go through. Initially it put me off going back there but that week-long trip up 🆙 there in June 2021 gave me some much-needed closure. And so it all ended well…

What's more, we are going first class on LNER.
