well because Carol was already married...I think, from the point of view of the characters, they were both intense, passionate and self-destructive. David's selfishness and Carol's indecisiveness coupled together was a recipe for destruction. But very well written and acted by Patsy Palmer, Michael French and Lindsay Coulson.
