Easter Carpets in Antigua, Guatemala: They only last for an hour!

During Lent and Holy Week, Guatemalans and tourists come to Antigua, Guatemala to see the religious processions and beautiful temporary carpets that are created in the streets. The carpets (las alfombras) are made of dyed sawdust or natural materials like grasses and flowers.
The carpets are finished just before the procession passes over them and destroys them, a reminder that everything in life is temporary.

Good video however we dont celebrante easter, we celebrate holy week or semana santa. Ask somebody from Guatemala about how they célebrate easter and they wont have any idea of what you are talking about.

Hey Carlos, thanks for your comment. Very true. I didn’t think most people in the U.S. would know what Holy Week was either, so I said Easter. This video was actually the first weekend in Lent, so not even Holy Week. Is there another way that you would say that or just Lenten celebrations or celebrations leading up to Holy Week?

Hi, thank you for your answer. I would say that Lent and Holly Week celebratios are kind of the same because we use to make carpets, processions and religious activities to remember the death and resurrection of Jesus. I hope you enjoyed your time in Guatemala. You are welcome at any time. Regards.
