It never occurred to me to blow out the insides-we always colored hard boiled eggs when I was a kid, and the ephemeral-ness of the Egg Art (and destroying the art to eat the eggs later) is part of the point for me, but what a smart way to make eggs you can keep!

Where I live, both variants are common. Blown out coloured eggs to decorate branches (e.g. forsythia or pussy willow) and boiled coloured eggs to eat during the holidays.

Same, I always hard boiled my eggs, I ate only the whites because the boiled yolks had a texture that grossed me out, which got even worse color-wise when we peeled the dyed shells off, it was grey and almost resembled the trackball of an old computer mouse.

My family always made confetti bombs out of the Easter eggs. And yes, they’re just as hard to make. As they sound you would take an egg shell empty it and then stuff at full of paper confetti, it was pretty fun throwing them everywhere. Ideally, you want to have the confetti to fight outside because that would be nightmare to clean up.

@@sailorenthusiast idk where you guys are from but now IM surprised that so many ppl don't know about the blowing out method! Im from Poland and everyone i know always did them this way? The hardboiled ones were usually for the basket since here its much more of a Christian tradition, so we would dye the hard boiled ones using red onion peels for example and they would go in the basket for the blessing , and then we would eat them for easter breakfast. We only paint the hollow shells exactly so that we can keep them! Its inevitable that some will break especially with kids, but over the years my family kept the prettiest ones and our entry hallways is always decorated with them

I think it's because, at least in America, most of us just did sloppy dye jobs for funsies. When you make ART WORK, like Pysanky (or Ukrainian Eggs as I grew up calling them) you want to preserve them so the blow out method is best

In Eastern European traditions, the eggs would be boiled with onion skins and polished with some oil, and some can decorate them further by engravings, but we always break the shells anyways. The decorating and the boiling go in one go. I heard that many French households use onion skins to make bone broth. As long as they aren't rotten or dusty, they can make perfectly good broth along side some animal bones and carrot scraps.

I used to love Easter. In Finland it's tradition to kids dress up as witches or bunnies and go to door to door with decorated branches, sing a little rhyme and get treats as reward. Kinda like American Halloween but spring themed. I also did that when I was kid. Nowdays it's mostly just enjoying some chocolate eggs and maybe dinner with my family. I still do love all colors and cutesy theme what Easter brings 🥰 And those egg became very pretty! I want to paint some now!

That's awesome! Why do we NOT have a "spring-themed Halloween"? I mean, probably because the Americans who actually celebrate Easter "properly" are worried that it would over-commercialize the time of Jesus's resurrection...I can think of ways it could be done though.
@randomgrmlin

@@RocRolWriter I think another reason could be because there's already Halloween for trick or treating. Trick or treating isn't really done here during Halloween so that's why we kinda have "virpominen" (name of the tradition) for Easter instead!

You can also soak the eggshells in food-dyed water - and even create patterns by drawing on the shell with a candle or white wax crayon before hand, that's the really traditional method (my grandmother used to use natural dyes - red cabbage water, onion skin water, turmeric etc. We used 90s liquid artificial food colouring - a couple of drops in a mugful)

My mom is a serious-business maker of Ukrainian easter eggs and has serious-business tools for making eggs, including this tool that squeezes the egg inners out without a mouth ever touching the shell. I guess it makes the work go more quickly (plus, those eggs are meant to stick around for years and any bits of egg left inside are gonna stiiiiiiiiink… they’re pretty much weapons and turn to pure stink gas). It’s fun to try the Ukrainian wax-resist method of decorating eggs! The first few tries make you feel like everything you make will always be terrible and then you figure out what you’re doing and you just get better and better. 😃

I just did three plastic eggs yesterday afternoon. I sprayed them with white primer first, then a layer of black satin acrylic paint, and then the fun began! I brushed each half with either a chameleon powder or a regular mica powder, sealed that with gloss spray, then another layer of pigment and another coat of gloss. Now I have shiny metallic eggs! Quick, easy and fun. I have three more left from the package that I want to do acrylic pours on. (These eggs are hinged, and have two holes in the top & bottom halves. I clipped the hinge off and used bamboo skewers through the holes to hold them for spraying and painting.)

We always paint the eggs and then have an egg breaking contest. It’s a tradition where I live, everyone picks an egg each as their champion, then you hold a championship where two people are paired up and one smashes the top of their egg into the top of the opponents egg. The egg that breaks loses that round, but they’re not out of the competition quite yet because they still have the bottom of their egg left! So the next round you turn the egg around and hit bottom with bottom, if one egg gets broken on both sides then it’s out of the competition completely. Then you just go on like that until only one egg is left standing, the owner of the egg gets crowned egg queen/king and wins the yearly egg tournament.

Another method I've heard about is to take colourful tissue paper and paper mashe it onto the eggs. The ones I saw were very pretty. Plus they put glitter, because why wouldn't you? lol Very fun projects if you have little ones. (or if you want to play with eggs) : 3

We decorate biscuits (cookies) to look like Easter eggs, it's very fun to watch kids get covered in icing (just the icing sugar and water kind) sticking lollies onto them

i got really down on myself today, but this video helped make it a little better. trust it when i and others say that we come to you for more than just dolls, your videos are always light-hearted and it’s fascinating to learn new art techniques or get to understand more of your design and execution process!

We used to do both blown eggs and eggs dyed with food colouring. That way we could paint some and then get to have colourful egg sandwiches 😊

Just like others said, I came for your cheerful, creative self. I get artistic things and get cheered up in a few minutes! Doll, sketches or eggs? I am fine with all but to be fair, I am interested in all (looking, at least. I wouldn't make dolls, seems a lot of work and more skill that what I possess).

We boil the eggs and color the shells with food safe dye and then crack them open and eat them, we do the same for the deviled eggs

My family hasn't dyed or painted eggs in years, but I did buy a bunch of plastic gold eggs to give my coworkers before I leave my job at the end of the week.

SO COOL!!! I did the blowing the insides out Easter eggs once back in the 7th or 8th grade--I think I learned it at school. Now that it's just me and the aging parents I dye hard-boiled eggs in old expired Kool-Aid--that red and purple dye NEVER stops working! It comes in handy when you forget to pick up a Kit....!!

I love all the different egg designs, I'd never of thought to put temporary tattoos on them!❤ I've never actually used real eggs, I didn't realise it was such a thing, I normally use fake wooden ones!😂

I've never actually painted a real egg shell before. I always did wood or plastic eggs. This is making me want to decorate eggs they are all so pretty. I think my favorite have the gold accents

Your eggs turned out so cute! I've never blown out the egg insides before coloring Easter eggs. Me and my family always hard boiled them before decorating, then ate them when Easter was over. Lots of hard boiled eggs for breakfast and snacks. Good thing we liked them!
