Directed and edited by Marcus Howard. The battle at Mount Street is seen as one of the bloodiest battles of the 1916 Easter Rising. Historians and authors Derek Molyneux and Darren Kelly take you through the battle step by step. Heroism and chivalry was displayed by both the Sherwood Foresters and the Irish Volunteers in this epic, bloody battle. Nearly half of the entire 1916 British casualties in the Easter Rising happened in the Mount Street area.This is the story of 13 men versus 1,600 British troops.

I have visited Dublin several times and like the excellent narrator of this video I could not believe the lack of commemoration at the sites of the uprising. So I am glad to see that individuals like yourself are doing your best to rectify this situation. Good luck and thank you for such an informative and enjoyable video. Do you have plans to do similar work at other sites?

My gggm and 1 year old nanny lived right at Mount St bridge just behind where the guy talking has the glass building behind him. At that time many were in the British army as Ireland was under British rule. That week my gggf was killed in France. I can't imagine the fear of the guns going off.

Let's have it right. These were fresh faced new trained recruits. Completely in the dark about where they were. They actually thought they had landed on France until they got off the boat. Indeed the volunteers were new to it all too but these soldiers were clueless and poorly led. It was a well prepared ambush and well executed with a lot of courage. But let's not pretend they were fighting the Tans, they were all very young and green kids with absolutely no experience. Let me add that the cause of self determination was a just cause, but all sides must be pitied as they were all victims of the controlling classes in Westminster.

Can imagine William Christians being told thousands of troops were on the way and his father pleading with him to leave and him saying nothing but death can make me desert my post now if that's not dedication and courage I don't know what is they said the flashes from Malone and graces guns could be seen from clanwilliam house Malone made them pay from his window the Lee Enfield long range and Peter the painter when they charged and were close

Republicans always kill more innocent people than enemy soldiers. Its why their history is nothing but failures they act like were victories.

If the Brits had been combat veterans with decent officers they would have brought up field artillery and shelled the s - - - out of the place,surprised they did,nt,the Germans most certainly would have.Shows the Brits did not see the Irish as enemies,especially with six Irish Regiments in the British Army

@@olliephelan Yeah,but were they battle veterans,or kids with six weeks training. The later Auxies who supported the R I C were a totally different story.Popularily and wrongly known as the Black and Tans who were a completely different force.
@olliephelan
@olliephelan Жыл бұрын
@@philiprufus4427 Well, wait. Youre mixing up two different things. The easter Rising in 1916 , and then the War of Independence (called the Black and Tan war) in 1919 (3 years later) The auxilliary police force made up of WW1 veterans and mercenaries, were given a combination of police and khaki uniforms, leading to them being called black and tan. They were a distinct group. They were the most hated and the most targeted. The regular RIC were only targeted if they created problems. The vast majority of them stayed in their barracks and left the IRA alone. Thats why the auxies were formed and sent here.
