Stranglethorn basically WAS Vietnam if you were a first-time Horde Player on a PVP server. After having levelled in Horde zones for the first 30 levels, you get on a flight to arrive at a military base in a jungle-covered tropical region of an Eastern continent, and once you venture into the jungle, you will face enemy forces behind every tree.

@@tiffles3890 yeah man. going save until duskwood and then arriving at a rebel camp, already greeted by a "neutral" tauren npc... or maxlevel campers right at the entrance^^ though, arriving by plane surely gave style points to horde.

Just wanna mention that Kurzen's whole story is originally sourced from Joseph Conrad's 1899 novella "Heart of Darkness," in which the protagonist travels into "darkest Africa" to meet a man named Kurtz and experiences more and more maddening scenes of depravity and evil as he travels until he is confronted by an insane man named Kurtz who is the personification of all the horror he's experienced up until then. Apocalypse now was a re-imagining of the novella set during the Vietnam War.

Outside of Booty Bay, nobody has actually been able to establish permanent, functioning holds. They're all military/camps (and nobody bothers to build anything more because their existences are always under threat and unguaranteed).

Always loved Eastern Kingdoms. It's your standard EverQuest style continent. It's got it all, frozen highlands, feverish swamps, Elvish . . . tree's that are way too flippin high and too easy for a young entrepreneuring Dwarf to fall to his death from while doing a quest to kill a spider... human kingdoms in the middle.

Funny that Stranglethorn was actually based on vietnam, cause all of my friends used to call it vietnam for a number of reasons: the fact that you always had to watch your back or an enemy player would kill you, and if some low lvl died he would call his high lvl friends and get revenge and then he would call his friends and then it would become a massive battle. that place was constantly infested in fights and ambushes and leveling was kind of slow because you had to always walk carefully, avoiding roads and hide in the bushes if you had to recover. fun times.

Man this is gonna be a 6 part minimum! You barely covered 3 zones, and still have Blasted Lands, Swamp of Sorrows. Searing Gorge, Burning Stepes, Loch Modan, Wetlands, Arathi Highlands, South Shore, Hillsbrad, Hinterlands, Silverpine, Tirisfal, East and Western Plaguelands, Quel'Thalas and the most important of all: Westfall! With all the defias Brotherhood lore!!!! ALSO: Why noone ever talks about Kurzen's model?! He uses an early alpha human model and his armor is so damn unique!!!

In Outland, there is an arrakoa that gives you a quest called "time is of the essence". Then you have to fight the banished arrakoa called Skettis. This is a direct reference to an 80's move called "The Dark Crystal". I loved that movie when I was a child.

Deadwind wasn't blown up when Medivh died, it happened at a seemingly ever-changing time. There's an old dialogue from the books wherein Khadgar asks 'Why did you come to Karazhan? When did the explosion happen?' to which Medivh rebutts that time is irrelevant, it could have exploded when the tower was built, or the tower was already built and waited there for Medivh; It didn't matter.

Platinum, have you ever considered doing stuff on some of the retcons, like how the orgiginal Scythe of Elune story pre-cataclysm seemed to say the Worgen were from another world that was being invaded by the Legion at the same time as the War of the Ancients, and the priestess of Elune brought them through thinking they had a common enemy? That was one of my favorite things in Vanilla Wow, and the Druids of the Pack just don't stack up IMO.

Actually the shape of STV is more likely to be related to South Africa with the island in the south east resembling Madagascar. Also the Rebel Camp story line is a reference to the book "The Heart of Darkness" which takes place in Africa and on which the movie "Apocalypse Now" is based on. So the whole zone is one big Africa reference
