If you've ever wanted a guitar that put off a wall of sound while strumming but was also a loud fingerstyle guitar then this Eastman Jumbo might just be your new favorite instrument. Built with a tonewood combination of Engelmann and Flamed Maple, this jumbo is just as pleasing to play as it is to look at! Here's Jesse to ruin Pinball Wizard for you!

Yes! I have wanted a J200 ever since first hearing “Pinball Wizard” and “Behind Blue Eyes”... the AC630 is $2500 less, and sounds great.

I was ready to buy a Gibson J-200 in 2007. I ended getting a brand new all solid wood Korean made Parkwood PW340FM for a tenth of the price of the Gibson. For what it’s worth, the Epiphone version of the J-200 was twice the price of my Parkwood and completely inferior all the way around.

Great video as always! Curious what your thoughts are on this vs the 822 or 622?

I wonder how loud this is. It doesn’t sound loud or rich-mostly pick noise on the strings. (But to be fair, I’ve just listened to another review recorded in better conditions where this guitar sounded terrific.) I’ve just tried a decibel meter on my Eastman AR810CE archtop jazz guitar-beautiful, hand-carved, solid wood. Loud chords reached 88 db two feet from the meter and averaged 84 dB with single string, using a BlueChip pick. By contrast, my small but super loud and super compressed Eastman E20P parlor guitar I use for fingerpicking reached 98 db strumming and averaged 90 db on single strings with the same pick, same distance. That’s a huge difference in volume. (3 db doubles the volume.). For fun, I also tried my high-end Gibson mandolin, an unusually loud mandolin, and easily played in the 90-99 db range. (I’ve never had an unamplified guitar or mandolin go beyond that. That seems to be about the limit. Other than that, what matters is the tone of that volume.)

A beautiful guitar with a beautiful tone. I have two Eastmans, think this must be the third, or do I get the j45 I've always wanted?

Have you seen our videos on the Eastman E10 SS and the E20 SS? Both are great J-45 style slope shoulder dreads. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJzMY4pnh8eci5I kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpLKoal-jJKna9U

@@ArtisanGuitars I once owned an e20ss, I didn't like it. I have a j15 which is much more my taste. The e20 ss for reasons unknown has a much narrower neck than the e6om and the e6 d I have.

These are great guitars I will say, they prefer to strum closer to the sound hole then the bridge. Tone comes to life onxe you move er forward a bit :)

Yes...I found it was lacking in the bottom end ..and was thinking it was because of the maple....but yeah strumming closer towards the sound hole makes sense...Good suggestion !😀

Interesting. At 1:36-1:38 you strum the guitar and it fades and then suddenly the volume swells. It swells because your mic signal is running through a compressor. Then you begin lecturing about the guitar and "natural" compression and ask if we even know what natural compression is, do we know what it means, do we even know what we are listening for? That volume swell happens again at 3:36. So in answer to your question of whether we know what natural compression is and what we are listening for. Yes, we do. It would be nice if the next time you give a lecture on natural compression, you make sure your recorded signal is not being squashed by a digital compressor.

I notice he didn’t (or probably couldn’t) reply because you are 1000% right! Reminds me of the classic Police lyric: “When my eloquence escapes me, their logic ties me up and rapes me.”

@@BI-km6dl The sad thing is, the AC630-BD is a fantastic, well balanced guitar with great tone. It needed no compression. Just play and let it sing.

The volume swell you are hearing is caused by the video editor unmuting his vocal mic/camera mic so there is no sound leakage. It would be nice if the next time you lecture us about compression if you understand how video editors can mute and unmute different microphones to stop sound leakage

@@AlfimAlves I'll assume you are right and so I stand corrected. My apologies for guessing wrong. My original post here is a year old, I'm glad you figured out what causes the clip-on vocal mic to have more clarity and volume and sound less compressed than an incredible sounding guitar recorded with stereo mics. Not sure how the video editor mutes and unmutes when he is talking and playing at the same time, but then again, we've already established my lack of recording expertise. I've tried several stereo recording setups before it occurred to me that a guitar played solo is essentially a mono sound source. With that in mind, here's a fun experiment for you, instead of two stereo mics plus a voice mic, you might try using an Aston Origin large diaphragm mic all by itself. They are fairly inexpensive. Unless he has a hidden mic somewhere, I'm pretty sure that's all that J.P. Cormier is using for his videos and his guitar demos sound great and have no clip-on mic muting/unmuting issues. Give it a try, let me know what you think.

@@patricklundquist9869 lol were you born in the 1800’s? The editing is done post-production on computer software, it’s obviously not muted/unmuted live. Both mics are on during the recording and then muted/unmuted afterwards in the software.
