Travel halfway around the world and go sheep hunting for a “gold-medal double” on giant Marco Polo rams with Guy Eastman in Tajikistan. Eastman hunts a giant world record class Marco Polo ram near the border of Afghanistan. To harvest a giant Marco Polo ram in Asia, hunters must overcome extreme altitudes, barren terrain, and must match wits with one of the most elusive and cunning big game animals on the planet. Hunting for giant Pamir rams is not for the faint of heart, and to hunt them on foot in a spike camp at 16,500 feet during November is more than most hunters can muster. Watch to see how these two mountain hunters challenge themselves in one of the toughest climates on earth to try and bring home one of the largest and most coveted big game prizes in all of the world.

Hey Guy, Congratulations on your success. It is almost rare these days that young folks set goals and work towards achieving them for a long period of time. What impresses me the most about your hunt really, is the altitudes you had to overcome. What most people don't know is that the average hunter could not deal with any elevation over 8,000 feet. I know that at around 11,000 feet I start feeling a little peaked. The rams are absolutely beautiful and a prize to behold. Those old boys lived long healthy lives and were spared a tragic death at the end of their lives by a hunter. And to the lady with the negative comments, 100% of the meat is consumed and greatly appreciated by the local people always. They eat parts of the animal that an American would turn their nose up to. Too bad we have to educate the ignorant.

My very first hunt with my Grandfather was a stone sheep hunt and it was so hard for a 14 yr old kid to keep up with the older grizzled veterans of countless sheep hunts but it got me hooked. My Grandfather completed his quest for the grand slam of sheep with his Marco Polo Sheep at the young age of 72....but 72 for him was like 42 for most alpine hunters. I started my Quest for the Slam in 2009 with my Stone Sheep and the next year was very fortunate to get my Dall Sheep, then in 2012 I went South for my Desert Big Horn and was able to accomplish that goal. My Rocky Mtn Big Horn is my current Ram I'm after but as any accomplished Sheep Hunter knows you get lucky only once in your hunting life time and I have already had my "lucky" moment. It takes time and prep to scout and find a true Rocky Mtn Big Horn worthy of the quest.... thousands of calls to different friends, countless hours of flying, Driving, Hiking, glassing....and the weather has to cooperate....I have not harvested a Sheep since the Desert Big Horn but each season I have looked none the less....well this year I finally found the sheep I'm after....and best of all I don't have to even leave my own backyard kinda to get him....I've seen him off and on for 2 yrs now and have everything in place for a 2021 hunt....then it's all up hill from there....I will try and finish off my Grand Slam as Grandfather did with a Marco Polo....at first when the wife, kids and I would sit in our family room and I would look at all of Grandfather's Mounts...on the wall we designated just for his trophy's I inherited...and my wall right next to his separated by a pine timber....though mine were very comparable to his....my wall was filling up much slower than I hoped it would, but he was retired at 50 and had more resources than I do for hunting and my quest hasn't consumed all my hunting like it did his.....with him it was an obsession to complete his Slam with each animal bigger than what is considered "A mature Trophy Shooter"....and he did just that. None are world class by themselves but what he was able to do in my opinion is. Great Video as always from the Eastman's.

sry to ask, but im curious how much does one regular hunting trip cost? It looks like it needs a ton of resources.
@IRONHORSE427RACING
@IRONHORSE427RACING 3 жыл бұрын
@@kaimargonar1000 you are right, unless your lucky enough to live in an area like We do that has at least 1 of the species it's very costly. The planning, and money it can take is what most would consider outside the norm for any hunt let alone one that involves a whole species of animal. Some places just getting a Tag is the most difficult.

First you gonna have to get about 100000 usd for your hunt, you gonna go to Istanbul Turkey you'll get your guides you'll go to those mountains you gonna be seeing about 1000 goats a day and about 100 gonna be rams, your guides won't allow you to shoot just any of them, you gonna be shooting one of the oldest the one that probably won't have any more kids...

I work in nature every day to protect animals / birds for being extinct. In my country we hunt geese etc becaus we dont have the top of the foodchain like wolves and foxes and great eagles. It's so great to have a world record specimen to have been taken out of a breeding population already in decline. Good shot, while you can still find them. Good job, man.

How do you think his natural death would have gone? Wild animals don't have hospice. They grow old and weak and starve to death in environments like that. Part of taking "Trophy" game is harvesting animals past their prime. Did you not notice the younger rams with him that will now take over the role of breeding and competing for food. Nature is not nice and that Ram died majestically to be honored from now on instead of skin and bones wasting away and abandoned by his heard on a cold mountain. Pretty sure the heard numbers are watched and managed closely just like any other species. That hunt probably cost 50-60 thousand dollars. Most of that money goes back into management and habitat improvement for game species around the world. Wildlife management agencies use hunting as a way to regulate animals and keep then in healthy productive numbers. That's why harvest numbers change from year to year. Here in Texas, if we have an unusually dry spell and low reproduction they pull back the amount of deer you're allowed to harvest. If the male/female ratio gets out of what they consider ideal, they adjust it but allowing more does or bucks for a year or so. Every year, according to figures from Texas Parks & Wildlife, White-tailed deer hunting generates $1.2 billion in the state. Nationwide, hunting the White-tailed deer brings in $15.7 billion. White-tails were almost extinct 100 years ago. Now we have a higher deer population than ever before in recorded history. Hunting pays for the people out there year round studying them and improving their habitat. There are in general more game species everywhere in the world today because of game management, paid for by hunters. I do appreciate your concern, but most people just aren't aware of how much goes into keeping various species of animals alive and thriving. If those rams were truly in danger of extinction, I can guarantee you they wouldn't be out there legally hunting them and posting it on the internet.

@@chrisrosenthal1210dude, this is the problem of animal right activists, they only think that we arent allowed to hunt animals, even though it only grows animal wildlife.
