Michael... thank you very much for this video. You have taken a lot of the guess work out for me. I’ve learned so much from yours & Steve Huston’s videos. You guys and many more do so much for those who either can’t afford, travel or the worst one of all, lack of confidence. It truly is an honor to watch & listen you guys. Thank you, your humble listener!!!

great video Michael. I started to paint small paintings of flowers recently and really love it. I found your video in the bundle package I received to be of enormous value to me. I used to paint them too much and articulated way too early. After watching your video, it was crystal clear to me what not to do anymore. I think I understand the rhythm and edges of flowers to get the texture of them. thank you and hope to get to do a workshop with you:)))

The Full Palette seen in this video. As a note, it varies a bit from time to time but mainly the ideas stay the same. If you have a a part of the color spectrum you can't reach you simply add another pigment that is able to expand to a more chromatic color. **Colors from Left to Right are as follows : Raw Umber (Old Holland), Burnt Umber (Old Holland), Ivory Black (Old Holland), Ultramarine Blue (Old Holland), Cobalt Blue (W&N), Cobalt Violet (W&N), Magenta (Old Holland), Alizarin Crimson (W&N), Burnt Sienna (W&N), Cadmium Orange (Old Holland), Titanium White (Old Holland), Cadmium Yellow Pale (W&N), Raw Sienna (Michael Harding), Viridian (Old Holland)**

This is a brilliant lesson. I have always had my lightest lights to the right - working yellows, reds, blues then earth - I love the way you have your white in the middle and how you have your neutrals on the bottom left. This has inspired me to bring out my old wooden palettes and I am ready to adjust my way of playing (I don't want to call painting work because it is fun). This new arrangement will take some getting used to but it makes so much more sense. P.S. I purchased your English Rose and Peony video and have watched it 3 times in the past few days - it is so chock full of information that I am trying to grasp it all. Thank you so much for being so generous with your thoughts and lessons.

Hello Michael, thanks a lot for the video, I learned a ton. Just a quick question, do you find the need to have Cadmium Lemon and Cadmium red? I just noticed those two colors are commonly included in other artists' palette, but not in yours, just wondering what your thoughts are. I really like your systematic approach to color mixing, awesome video!
@davidsmith39687 жыл бұрын
Love how systematic this approach is, and occasionally surprising, especially in the use of warm and cool browns. Many thanks.

Michael I have enjoyed your videos and your work is exquisite. This short demo is so informative. Didn't think it was possible to teach an old dog any new tricks. Such a pleasure to watch and listen to your color mixing theories presented in such a natural and "logical" way. As a student I was introduced to the Munsell Color theory and found it extremely helpful but I never thought of "arranging" my palette in such a way that would reflect the Munsell system as you do. I also have never thought of the dark earth colors as you named them..."down to the left are the least saturated colors = ivory black is the neutral blue burnt umber is the neutral red raw umber is the neutral yellow Thank you for this informative and absolutely delightful presentation of color mixing in such a natural way.

Amazing teachings here! Thanks so much Michael! Such a clean and intuitive process. I am super curious, why do you not need cad red (or a power warm red) in this set up? Is it b/c you can shift warm from Alizerin or Magenta? And you don't need a warm yellow b/c the orange brings the cad yellow pale into the warms? I'm just trying to understand better. Thank you so much!

Excellent method. Might be better to use pallet knife to keep from fouling each color. Disappear the knife when holding up to each area of color. Easier on brushes too. Thanks.
